The City of Longview Partners in Prevention’s Unity and Diversity Committee announces Mrs. Amanda Veasy and Mr. Clent Holmes as the 2023 Unity Honors recipients.  The Unity Honors is a lifetime achievement award recognizing residents who have demonstrated leadership in promoting unity, mutual understanding, and social justice.

A special recognition award will be presented to the Greater Longview United Way, which provides nonprofit organizations with funding through community giving. United Way has implemented the Read to Succeed program, vending machines of books for children, and the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program, a free tax service for those whose income is less than $60,000.  

Amanda Veasy is the Founder and Executive Director of One Love Longview, a partner in The Center Partners, LLC, Co-Owner of The Center, CEO of Twice Loved Marketplace, and Co-Founder of Unchurched.  Amanda has dedicated most of her volunteer service to building trust with those experiencing homelessness by providing food and other necessities for the past seven years. As One Love Longview has grown, so has the number of volunteers serving beside her. Amanda has also organized and hosted events in city parks within marginalized and underserved communities.  Amanda serves as the President of the North East Texas Homeless Consortium and is a member of the Advisory Board at Jarvis Christian University.

Clent Holmes started his career in Mechanical Engineering and sustained a career in power generation for over a decade.  However, mentoring youth as a volunteer is where his heart has always been, serving as a mentor for the last fifteen years, which led him to Thrive Longview (formerly known as Thrive 360), where he is currently the Executive Director.

Clent attributes his success through maintaining a strong community of mentors throughout his professional endeavors.  He embodies and is committed to a lifestyle of character development, which is the essence of Thrive Longview, a local non-profit organization whose mission is transforming the lives of teens.  Clent is also a Co-Founder of the 1919 Longview Remembrance Project and serves as a member of the President’s Advisory Council of LeTourneau University, Longview News-Journal Community Advisory Board, Longview Queens United Steering Committee, City of Longview’s Partners in Prevention Steering Committee, and a Community Partner for the Campus Improvement Team at Foster Middle School and Community Advisor at Buckner International.

The Unity and Diversity Committee will honor the two recipients at the 19th Annual Unity Honors Luncheon.  The luncheon will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Feb. 15 at the Maude Cobb Convention Center, 100 Grand Blvd.
