On September 2nd, Milton Mayor Heather Lindsay and City Manager Randy Jorgenson recognized Milton’s Poet Laureate, Marc Livanos, for the outstanding work he has done in the community over the past several years.  Livanos, who lobbied for the creation of Milton’s Poet Laureate position in 2017, resigned in order to move closer to family members in another state.

As Poet Laureate, Livanos served Milton’s community by running a poetry workshop at the Clyde L. Gracey Community Center in addition to working with the Santa Rosa County Writer’s Guild to produce the Blackwater Literary Journal.  Under Livanos’ tutelage, many children and teenagers learned to deal with hardship and adversity in their lives by putting their thoughts to paper in a constructive manner.  Not content to only assist the city of Milton in this manner, Livanos used his position to coordinate a similar program in Pensacola with the help of the West Florida Literary Federation and the Santa Rosa County Writer’s Guild.
