The new OMUC mascot

We are happy to announce that OMUC has a new mascot. Our Otter friend is excited to be part of the OMUC team. He is a strong swimmer and he's handy with tools. He has been a big help to OMUC so far and we are excited to introduce him in person at the next City event. Ontario will be naming our new Otter mascot soon.

How are meters read?

Do you know how the City reads meters?

Meters are read by two different methods: mobile(drive-by) or fixed(tower). A meter that is programmed to a mobile setting is read by having a truck with antennas and a laptop drive by the general area to pick up the read. A meter set in fixed mode will transmit data a couple times a day to our base station allowing the City to get the data in real time. The City currently uses either 3G or AMI (advanced metering infrastructure) technology; 3G technology is currently being phased out for AMI meters.

Meters are read in HCF (hundred cubic feet), 1 HCF is equal to 748 gallons of water. Next time you look at your water bill you can easily calculate how many gallons were used.
