Corpus Christi, TX – At today’s regularly scheduled City Council Meeting, Mayor Paulette Guajardo and the City Council authorized the first year of a new 20-year interlocal agreement with the Coastal Bend Bays & Estuaries Program (CBBEP). The $75K annual contribution will allow the City to participate in the CBBEP’s dedication to protecting and restoring the health and productivity of the bays and estuaries in the Texas Coastal Bend and supports continued economic growth and public use of the bays.

This authorization updates the original agreement adopted by the City Council on June 21, 1999, and retains the City’s voting seat on the CBBEP’s eight-member Board of Directors.

“The City is a proud partner and will continue to support the CBBEP mission for years to come,” said Mayor Paulette Guajardo. “The Coastal Bay Plan has served as a regional framework for the management, protection, and conservation of the Coastal Bend bays and estuaries for 20 years.”

By continuing to partner with CBBEP, the City will play a vital role in the Coastal Bend Bays Plan that seeks to ensure that bays and estuaries remain a vibrant part of the region’s environmental and economic landscape through research, restoration and recreation projects and environmental education. A copy of the Bays Plan is available at https://www.cbbep.org.
