Chicago, IL — On April 28th, the committee people of Illinois’s 7th Congressional District selected Alderwoman Emma Mitts as the new Democratic State Central Committeewoman after the passing of Committeewoman Karen Yarbrough. Democratic Party of Illinois Chair Lisa Hernandez shared the following to congratulate the newest DSCC Committeewoman:

“Committeewoman Emma Mitts’s enthusiasm for the role–and for Democratic values–is palpable. Her decades of public service experience and commitment to “Unity In The Community” will bring invaluable input and energy as we gear up for critical elections up and down the ballot this November.

With her breadth of electoral knowledge and solution-oriented approach, I’m excited to witness how she moves our Party forward and empowers Democrats as we look to the National Convention and the General Election,” said Chair Lisa Hernandez.

Mitts was selected yesterday evening through a weighted vote of the Democratic committee people of Illinois’s 7th Congressional District. She has lived in Chicago’s Austin neighborhood for twenty years and also serves in several community organizations including The New 37th Ward Democratic Organization.
