Friends of the Dennis Public Library Annual Meeting
Thursday, November 10 at 1:00pm

The combined Annual and Regular Meeting of The Friends of Dennis Public Library will be held at 1 PM on Thursday, November 10th in the library's Benjamin and Ruse Muse Meeting Room, 5 Hall Street, Dennis Port. Members of the Friends are encouraged to attend and participate in the election of officers for 2022-2023. Interested Dennis residents and non-members are also welcome. Come and learn how your support helps ensure that the library will continue to be a welcoming destination for children, adults, residents and visitors. Virtual Event - Pollination Ecology
Thursday, November 10 at 5:30pm
Join us for a virtual discussion on how we can help bees. Larry Dapsis of the Cape Cod Cooperative Extension will review honey bee biology and the factors responsible for their catastrophic losses. He will also review the state of wild pollinators like bumble bees and the things we can do to help them.

Author Talk - Joseph Theroux

Join us to hear author Joseph Theroux discuss his book, The Plot to Kill Lenin: With Somerset Maugham in Russia. In this novel, Somerset Maugham and Lloyd Osbourne have been tasked with locating the Great Orlov, the stolen imperial jewel whose value could fund the war effort against Germany.

You are welcome to attend a special afternoon with local poet Ronald Harrison Fenn as he shares his Autumn poetry with us.

Mr. Fenn’s poems have been published in various periodicals, magazines, and other publications, including the 2014 Dennis Conservation Land Trust newsletter and the Cape Cod Times Sunday edition in July 2019, chosen by blind selection by a panel of published poets. He is working on a new project, a “Poetic Diary” geared toward spontaneous free verse and prose, and “Wind on Water” short poems inspired by the T’ang dynasty poets.

A teacher at Cape Cod Community College, Mr. Fenn previously taught at Cambridge College and Suffolk University. He is a past member of the Shakespeare Oxford Society and Shakespeare Fellowship.

Mr. Fenn devotes his time to writing, traveling, and uncovering the historical roots of uniquely diverse American character.

English for Speakers of Other Languages

November Artist at the Library
Throughout the Month of November

Nancy Waldstein will be displaying the art of her grandfather, Raymond Perry in the Meeting Room during the month of November. He was the author of two books and his specialties were watercolor painting and block printing. He exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago from 1918 - 1926. He maintained a summer home and studio in West Dennis until his death in 1948.

Call for Artists for 2023

The Dennis Public Library wants to show you off!

The Dennis Public Library is seeking new artists to display their “two-dimensional” work in the library’s busy meeting room. The library also has a largedisplay case in the main lobby suitable for showcasing three-dimensional work.These spaces are available together or separately. Show periods run for one calendar month and artists are welcome to hold an opening. If you are, or know of, an artist who has not shown at the library since our post-Covid reopening, please consider displaying at the library.
The library is located at 5 Hall Street in Dennisport.

This month the Mystery Book Club is reading A Divided Loyalty by Charles Todd. This meeting is hybrid, online options are available. Please email [email protected] if you are interested in attending.

Wednesday, November 16th at 2:00pm - DPL Book Club

This month the DPL Book Club is reading There, There by Tommy Orange. This group meeting is in person at the library, but a Zoom option is available. Please email [email protected] if you are interested in participating.

Pre-school Story and Craft Time

Join Lisa, our Children's Librarian each Thursday for play time, fun stories, songs and a craft. All ages are welcome. No registration is required. Come and join the fun!

Creation Station: Building and Engineering With Creative Materials
Tuesdays, November 15th, 22nd and 29th 10am-11am

Facilitated by Mary Wilson of Pitter Patter Puppets

Join us for a 3-part weekly hands-on interactive learning program using a variety of unique building materials that will spark creativity and critical thinking skills while encouraging teamwork and social interaction.

Girls Who Code
Tuesdays, starting November 1st 4:30pm-6pm

What exactly is coding?

Coding is what makes it possible for us to create computer software, apps and websites. Your browser, your operating system, the apps on your phone, Facebook, and websites –they’re all made with code. We work or different activities each week that are fun and easy to follow along.
