The Hyannis Air Corporation began at a time when aviation was quickly growing as a form of commercial and private transportation. With a board of directors and stockholders, including Amelia Earhart, a new industry took off, providing for the Cape Cod Community and beyond. The rest is history.

September Artists at the Library
Throughout the Month of September

Despite pursuing a professional career as a data analyst and computer programmer, Rachel has created art of one kind or another for most of her adult life. In her youth she studied drawing and badgered friends to let her sketch them. She also started working with color, creating what could be called “jigsaw abstracts” (strongly outlined, interlocking shapes). She painted several surreal and impressionistic wall murals and decorated the outside of a VW bus with scenes and shapes inspired by her burgeoning interest in Buddhism and meditation.

In her 30s, Rachel played the drums in original music rock’n’roll bands and her songs were featured on four vinyl records. She designed album covers and many, many posters advertising her bands’ performances.

She moved to Cape Cod in 1994 and began to work with acrylic paint on canvas and paper. She also explored other mediums, such as permanent marker, watercolor and what she calls “3D Art.” In the intervening years, she’s produced many of the pieces featured in the show at the Dennis Public Library. As you will see, she has experimented with multiple artistic styles, including pure abstracts, abstract impressionism, realism, geometric art and representational art.

All proceeds from the sale of any piece on display will be donated to the Dennis Public Library (after deducting for materials such as canvas and frame).

You can view more of Rachel’s art on Instagram: @rachelcrosbyyippee or you can email her at [email protected].
