Dodgers Select Kyle Hurt

Los Angeles, CA - The Los Angeles Dodgers selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Kyle Hurt and optioned left-hander Victor González to Triple-A Oklahoma City. In order to make room on the 40-man roster, the Dodgers placed right-handed pitcher Gus Varland on the 60-day injured list.

Hurt, 25, was added to the Major League roster for the first time in his career. The righty has split the season between Double-A Tulsa and Triple-A Oklahoma City, going a combined 4-4 with a 3.87 ERA (38 ER/88.1 IP) and 145 strikeouts in 25 games. The No. 12 prospect in the Dodgers organization according to MLB.com was acquired from the Marlins on February 12, 2021 along with left-handed pitcher Alex Vesia in exchange for right-hander Dylan Floro. In three minor league seasons, he is a combined 11-13 with a 4.62 ERA with 290 strikeouts in 181 innings. The Southern California native was drafted by the Marlins in fifth round of the 2020 First Year Player Draft out of USC.

González, 27, was 2-3 on the season with a 4.13 ERA (15 ER/32.2 IP) and 29 strikeouts. He has been with the Dodgers parts of three seasons, and he is a combined 8-4 with a 3.26 ERA (32 ER/88.1 IP) and 85 strikeouts against 31 walks. With Triple-A Oklahoma City, he was 2-0 with a 2.60 ERA (5 ER/17.1 IP) and 19 strikeouts in 17 games. He has pitched in 156 minor league games (57 starts) and he is a combined 22-28 with a 4.26 ERA (198 ER/418.0 IP) and 413 strikeouts. He was signed by the Dodgers as an international free agent on July 2, 2012 from Tuxpan, Nayarit, Mexico.
