Dodgers Sign Jimmy Nelson, Alex Reyes And David Peralta

LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Dodgers have signed right-handed pitchers Alex Reyes and Jimmy Nelson as well as outfielder David Peralta to Major League contracts and transferred right-handed pitchers Walker Buehler, J. P. Feyereisen and Blake Treinen to the 60-day injured list.

Nelson, 33, signs a one-year deal for $1.2 million dollars. The former Alabama right-hander missed all of last season recovering from Tommy John surgery. He appeared in 28 games for the Dodgers in 2021, going 1-2 with a 1.86 ERA (6 ER/29.0 IP) and 44 strikeouts. The Florida native has been with the Dodgers since 2020 and he has completed parts of seven seasons in the Major Leagues. In his MLB career, he is 34-48 with a 4.12 ERA (303 ER/662.1 IP) and 622 strikeouts. He began his career with the Milwaukee Brewers after being drafted in the second round of the 2010 First Year Player Draft out of the University of Alabama. In six seasons with the Brewers, he went 33-46 with a 4.22 ERA (297 ER/633.1 IP) and 578 strikeouts. He finished ninth in the Cy Young voting in 2017 after going 12-6 with a 3.49 ERA (68 ER/175.1 IP) and 199 strikeouts in 28 starts.

Reyes, 28, agrees to a one-year deal through the 2023 season for $1.1 million. The right-hander missed all of last season with a right shoulder injury after going 10-8 with a 3.24 ERA (26 ER/72.1 IP) and 95 strikeouts in 2021 with the St. Louis Cardinals. He was an MLB All-Star in 2021, going 5-3 with 20 saves and a 1.52 ERA (7 ER/41.1 IP) in 38 first half appearances. He has been in the Major Leagues parts of five seasons since making his Major League debut in 2016 with the Cardinals. He is a combined 16-11 with a 2.86 ERA (46 ER/145.0 IP) and 177 strikeouts with 31 career saves in 101 games (seven starts). He was originally signed by the Cardinals as an international free agent on December 3, 2012. 

Peralta, 35, agrees on a one-year $6.5 million dollar contract. He joins the Dodgers after spending last season with Arizona and Tampa Bay. In 134 games, he hit .251 (110-for-439) with 12 homers and 59 RBI. He started the season with Arizona, slashing .248/.316/.460 with 12 homers and 41 RBI in 87 games before being traded to Tampa Bay for minor league catcher Christian Cerda. The Valencia, Venezuela born left-handed hitting outfielder has been in the Major Leagues since 2014, hitting a combined .281 (1001-for-3558) with 110 homers and 486 RBI in 1,008 career games. He signed with the Diamondbacks on July 3, 2013 as free agent from the Amarillo Sox of the American Association Independent League.
