Mayor Ed Gainey and United Steelworkers Call Out David McCormick’s Job Killing Record, China Military Investments, and Lies About Living in PA

PENNSYLVANIA — On April 23rd, in Pittsburgh, Mayor Ed Gainey and the United Steelworkers continued the Don’t Trust Dave Tour by holding a press conference calling out David McCormick’s record of prioritizing China over U.S. workers, supporting a ban on abortion with no exceptions for rape or incest, and lying about where he lives.

They also reacted to a recent New York Times report exposing David McCormick for giving “a misleading impression about key aspects of his background.”

“The choice between Senator Bob Casey who is fighting for working families and David McCormick who is fighting for himself and his wealthy friends couldn’t be clearer for Pennsylvanians come November,” said Pittsburgh Mayor Ed Gainey. “McCormick is lying to Pennsylvania about living in Connecticut and his long record of killing Pennsylvania jobs, while Senator Casey is delivering for Pennsylvanians by lowering costs for families and creating good-paying jobs.”

“Working families know they can count on Sen. Bob Casey because he’s repeatedly demonstrated he’s on their side, bringing good-paying jobs home, fighting to support American industries, and creating opportunities for workers here in Pennsylvania. Meanwhile, David McCormick built his fortune investing in China and other foreign competitors, killing jobs, and offshoring operations, all at the expense of American workers,” said United Steelworkers District 10 Director Bernie Hall. “Pennsylvania workers need someone who shares their values representing them in the U.S. Senate, and this year, the choice is clear. Sen. Casey has proven time and again that he stands with ordinary Pennsylvanians.”

“We need leaders we can trust to stand up to America’s adversaries, including China, not someone who is willing to undermine our national security just to make a buck,” said Bob Heister, retired Navy veteran and Steelworker. “As someone who has committed myself to serving and defending our country, I find David McCormick’s investments in Chinese military companies that produce weapons which could be used against the United States to be deeply disqualifying.”

Here’s What to Know About David McCormick Heading Into the General Election:

  • David McCormick is lying about living in Pennsylvania.“‘I live in Pennsylvania,’ McCormick said” […] “In reality, he’s living in a $16 million mansion in Westport on Connecticut’s “Gold Coast.”
    • David McCormick was also exposed for claiming that he “started with nothing” and “he didn’t have anything” when he actually grew up in a “sprawling hilltop residence.”
    • McCormick referenced a family “tree farm” in a 2022 ad that was used for the family hobby of raising Arabian horses.

  • David McCormick has deep ties to America’s adversaries. McCormick invested millions in blacklisted Chinese military companies that produced stealth bombers, fighter jets, and aircraft carriers. As CEO of Bridgewater, he increased investments in China by 108,000%, including in blacklisted Chinese companies with ties to human rights violations.

  • David McCormick supports an abortion ban with no exceptions for rape or incest. He supports an abortion ban with no exceptions for rape or incest and praised the leaked Dobbs decision as a “huge victory.” In a Republican Senate majority, McCormick would be a vote for a national abortion ban.
