Evanston Public Library seeks volunteers for Racial Equity Task Force
The Evanston Public Library’s Racial Equity Task Force is looking for new members to help guide Equity, Diversity and Inclusion efforts at the Library. Composed of community members, Library staff and Library trustees, this task force is devoted to increasing the Library’s outreach and service to underserved residents, particularly those living in Evanston’s 5th, 8th, and 9th wards.

The Library is specifically seeking people who have a passion for achieving greater equity, diversity, and inclusion in public service and those who have deep ties to people, groups, or organizations who have been historically underserved. The RETF meets once a month for 90 minutes, and the estimated total time commitment for each member on this task force will be 3-4 hours per month. Task force members are invited for two-year appointments.

The work of the RETF includes:
- Making recommendations for integrating equity, diversity, and inclusion into library programs and systems
- Identifying ways the Library might influence equity and inclusion beyond our community
- Helping the Library better serve our diverse communities and staff
- Reaching communities that have not been active users of the Library and its resources

Applications are open now through Sunday, Oct. 16.  All interested Evanston residents are encouraged to apply here. Please address any questions about the RETF to Heather Norborg, Interim Executive Director, at 847-448-8655 or [email protected].
