EPL launches Grow Share Belong art and reading classes for adults

If you or someone you know would enjoy a book club or an art class, but feel like it’s hard to keep up with the reading or get stuck on the registration forms, the Evanston Public Library has a new class for you.

The Library is starting a class this fall called Grow Share Belong for adults who love the arts and being creative, but who may have missed learning and now struggle with reading and writing.

Grow Share Belong will be taught by a professional artist and an adult literacy specialist, and the lessons will be based on your interests. Join a learning community that centers creativity and healing! Classes will be held on Fridays, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Sept. 30 through Nov. 11.

To learn more, watch the Art + Literacy intro video on the Evanston Public Library’s YouTube page.

Did you know...  free legal help at your library!

This September, The Evanston Public Library's Law at the Library program returns, with a monthly series of lectures on law basics. This series is the result of a partnership with the Chicago Bar Association and the Chicago Public Library  and features legal experts discussing critical legal topics and answering questions from attendees.

The Library also provides legal information appointments, which connect residents to free and low-cost legal organizations that can support residents’ needs.

“So many people have questions about the legal side of everyday situations,” says Evanston Public Library Legal Literacy Librarian Lorena Neal, a former practicing attorney. “This might include issues such as  landlord/tenant, divorce, wills and trusts, or child custody. We want to play a big role in the access to justice  movement.”

The next Law at the Library session, Divorce and Parental Rights, will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 27 at 6 p.m. via Zoom.
