Exciting Art Showcase - The Artwork of Lorraine Matsen

Arts and Entertainment

April 10, 2024

From: Belmar Arts Council

Please join us this week as Belmar Arts showcases the acrylic works of the late Lorraine M. Madsen, a Wall-resident for over 40 years, a cancer-survivor, and brilliant artist. A week full of incredible musicians will accompany the moving displays of her life's work!

After retiring, Lorraine began her serious pursuit of painting and concentrated on watercolors. The Jersey Shore and New England, as well as historical sites were her favorite subjects. Her paintings of the Razed Stout Farm and Barn are permanently displayed in Neptune NJ Historical Museum and she also created commissioned paintings of private homes.

Heavy chemotherapy treatments left her with nerve damage in her hands and feet that put her art career on hold. Luckily for her, and for us, she became encouraged and inspired by abstract painting and her craft was reinvented. Lorraine was given 5 years after her diagnosis and went on to live 21 colorful years in remission, until she passed about two years ago. Lorraine's husband Harry, now 91, is driven by his wish to see his wife's work find new homes and the BAC is honored to provide a space for the works to be displayed for sale. Continuing the generosity that Lorraine lived by, Harry is donating 25% of the proceeds raised from the sales directly to the BAC.
