Exhibition - Loewe Foundation Craft Prize 2023 at Noguchi Museum

Arts and Entertainment

April 16, 2023

From: Noguchi Museum

The 2023 edition of the LOEWE FOUNDATION Craft Prize presents an exhibition of works by the award’s thirty finalists, chosen by a panel of experts from over 2,700 international submissions. Spanning mediums including ceramics, woodwork, textiles, basketry, furniture, and jewelry, the shortlisted works explore meditative, time-intensive techniques and skillful manipulation of materials, often introducing a sense of playfulness with unexpected forms, colors, and trompe l’oeil.

The 2023 Craft Prize is the first public exhibition to be presented in Isamu Noguchi’s former studio, across the street from The Noguchi Museum in Long Island City, Queens.

Launched by the LOEWE FOUNDATION in 2016 to celebrate excellence, artistic merit, and innovation in modern craftsmanship, the annual prize was conceived of by LOEWE creative director Jonathan Anderson to acknowledge the importance of craft in today’s culture and pay tribute to LOEWE’s 19th century beginnings as a leather-making craft collective.

The winner of the 2023 Craft Prize will be announced on May 16.
