Falmouth Public Library & Branch Closures

Library Closures
The Falmouth Public Library and its Branches will be closed on Saturday, February 25th and Sunday, February 26th for the migration to the new KOHA Library System and Aspen Discovery catalog.

The new Aspen Discovery catalog will be available to the public on Monday, February 27th. IMPORTANT NOTE: Before you can use your library card and access its services, you will need to sign into the new Aspen catalog with your library card number and the last 4 digits of your phone number that is associated with your library card.  Watch the How Do I Sign In To My Account video to see how this is done.  Once you are logged in, you can then change your Password/PIN or keep it as is.  If you have Libby, hoopla, and Kanopy accounts, you will have to resign into your accounts after you sign into the Aspen catalog.  If you have any questions or need assistance with signing in, please call the library at 508-457-2555 extensions 5 or 7.

Chair Yoga Coming In March

Chair Yoga with Janet
We are happy to announce Chair Yoga with Janet is returning on Mondays for March!  Chair-supported yoga is a complete practice of seated and standing poses, stretches, and a final relaxation. It is appropriate for everyone, regardless of age, experience, or level of fitness. We’ll focus on improving flexibility, strength, breathing, and balance in a calm, supportive atmosphere–all with no need to get on and off the floor. All poses and breath exercises will be done either seated in a chair or standing, with the option of using the chair for just a bit of extra support.

Registration is required as class participation is limited to 20 people. Register for each class that you wish to attend.

Janet Gardner is a 500-hour graduate of the Kind Yoga School in Centerville and is a registered Yoga Alliance teacher. Janet has a passion for sharing the benefits of yoga with everyone. She has been practicing yoga for four decades and teaching yoga and meditation in Falmouth since 2016. These classes are free and sponsored by the Board of Library Trustees.

Black History Month Scavenger Hunt
Black History Month celebrates the many important African American influencers and contributors who have moved and continue to move our world into the future.

Stop by the Children's room between Thursday, February 16th and Tuesday, February 28th from 10am-5pm to learn about some of the many extraordinary people that we honor this month and every month!

Take a Black History Month Scavenger Hunt question sheet and search the Children's room for answers. Then bring your question sheet up to children's desk with at least 10 questions answered to claim your prize!

Please note the library will be closed on Saturday, February 25th and Sunday, February 26th.

Take and Make Craft: Extra Edition
We have extra crafts from craft times past that are longing to be made!

Stop by the Children's room on Friday, February 24th between 10am-5pm to choose from a variety of crafts to take home for the weekend!

Kanopy Movie Club: The Farewell

The Falmouth Public Library has a new movie club!  It's like a book club but for movies!  Watch the selected movie from the comfort of your own home prior to the movie discussion meeting using Kanopy then join us in-person at the library for an in-depth discussion of the movie.

The Farewell had 105 award nominations with 35 wins including 2020 Golden Globe Winner for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy, 2020 Best Independent Film from Hollywood Critics Association and 2019 Audience Favorite at the Sundance Film Festival (London).

Yoga Collaborative: Vinyasa
Our February Wellness sampler classes are with instructors from The Yoga Collaborative!

Join us on Tuesday, February 28th from 11am-12pm in the Hermann room for Vinyasa with Ray! Ray will guide us through a slow to moderate alignment focused Vinyasa flow that weaves in pranayama and meditation.  Using the technology of yoga, we can cultivate a deeper sense of awareness into our own self and practice. Registration is required as class participation is limited to 20 people.

National Parks: Olmsteads's Life and Legacy
Enjoy a virtual lunchtime webinar lecture on Wednesday, March 1st from 12pm-1pm from the Frederick Law Olmsted National Historic Site in Brookline, entitled "Olmsted's Life and Legacy."

While the world knows him today as the foremost American landscape architect, Frederick Law Olmsted would live a full life well before designing open green spaces. From a childhood in New England, Olmsted went on to practice farming, journalism, administration, and a number of other professions. Despite trying on many hats, everything Olmsted did in his life prepared him to become a landscape architect. Examine Olmsted's life from his early years up until his final days. Led by Community and Youth Engagement Coordinator Isabel Schulman.

This program will be recorded and all registrants will receive the recording via email within 24 hours of the lecture. This MA National Park Service series is provided by the Tewksbury Library.
