Greensboro, N.C. – One Guilford County senior is getting a full ride to North Carolina State University.

Abigail Mulry, a senior at Northern High, was recently named a Park Scholar, one of the most prestigious and comprehensive undergraduate scholarships in the nation. It offers opportunities for innovative enrichment activities as well as a four-year scholarship to the university.

Mulry is captain of both Northern High’s Science Olympiad and varsity basketball teams, president of the Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica Chapter, secretary of the National Honor Society and is a volunteer at the Greensboro Science Center. She also published research related to COVID-19.

“I am beyond excited to see what my future as a Park Scholar holds,” said Mulry. “I cannot wait to continue chasing my dreams through the welcoming embrace of the Park and NC State communities! I am so grateful that the scholarship committees saw promise in me and refused to take their investment in me lightly. I am forever thankful for the continuous support of those in my life, and hope that I may repay them by developing change and spreading love in the realm of engineering!”

“From the day Abby Mulry took her first step into my office in 2019, I knew she possessed a ‘secret sauce,’” said counselor Leslie Deaton. “What I now know is that she is a curious thinker, a tireless doer, a consummate leader and teambuilder, and a golden-hearted human being. Abigail Lynn Mulry is poised to think and to do and to be in a community of challenge seekers, intellectual explorers, and servant leaders.”

This year’s Park Scholars were selected from a pool of 2,260 applicants from three countries, 40 states and 97 of North Carolina’s 100 counties. Park Scholars demonstrate outstanding achievements and potential in scholarship, leadership, service and character.
