Welcome to this edition of the GSO’s newsletter “The Score”! We’ll keep you up to date with any of the GSO, GYSO, GSO Chorus, and GSO Jazz! info you might have missed. We will also include information about discounts and upcoming events as well. You can expect this newsletter on or about the 1st and 15th of each month.

Dear Friends,

Spring has sprung! Days are longer, sun is warmer, flowers are blooming, and the pollen has come…but it will go eventually! I think we all feel a little reborn in the Spring. If you’re itching to spread those wings and get out of the house after months of chilly gray rain, the GSO has you covered! 

GSO Jazz! will present The Vanguard Orchestra at the historic Strand Theatre on April 13. With a five-decade presence in New York City, the ever-evolving Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Vanguard ensemble has had a lasting presence on the jazz scene. Join us for an evening of big band hits including  Biddle De Bob Samba, Don’t Git Sassy, and Groove Merchant.

On April 27, come experience The Carnival of the Animals with the GSO. You’ll be among lions and tigers and bears (oh my!) as you enjoy this entertaining classic, narrated by our own Timothy Verville. The 2:00 Sensory Friendly concert is designed for our neurodivergent friends and is appropriate for those on the autism spectrum or anyone with a sensory sensitivity. At the 4:00 Family Concert, we’ll fill the hall with families introducing the young and the young at heart to Saint-Saëns humorous musical suite. If you’re looking for great classical music that is accessible and FUN to listen to with kids, you’ll want to start here! 

And here’s your early warning that we expect our season finale concert to sell out. If you want your pick of the best seats, you should purchase tickets now for Beethoven’s Universe, on May 18 & 19.  The centerpiece of this program is Beethoven’s epic masterpiece, considered by many to be the greatest of all symphonies. The GSO and GSO Chorus will combine forces to present Symphony No. 9.  Dedicated “to all mankind” this work is monumental in scope, making it the perfect match for a modern work by Eric Whitacre entitled “Deep Field.” Performed live to the film Deep Field: The Impossible Magnitude of our Universe, the work for chorus and orchestra features stunning imagery from the Hubble Space Telescope and creates an immersive experience for the listener. You don’t want to miss this!

There’s all this and more to enjoy with the Georgia Symphony Orchestra. We’re saving a seat for you!
