District Hires Chief Technology Officer
Michael Lockett brings 27 years of experience in information technology

Guilford County Schools has a new chief technology officer. Michael Lockett will join the school district in that role, bringing with him 27 years of experience in information technology.

Lockett currently serves as virtual chief information officer for Wipfli, a consulting and accounting firm, where he provides oversight and strategic leadership for clients in the U.S. and Canada to determine the most effective uses of technology and innovation. In that role, he spearheaded a process redesign to better achieve business needs.

His previous experience includes roles in government and education. Lockett was chief information officer for the Seminole Tribe of Florida from 2019 to 2021, and before that served for seven years as the director of technology for the city of Pembroke Pines and Pines Charter School in Florida. He was also director of technology for the cities of Dunwoody, Ga., and Riverdale, Ga.

Lockett holds a bachelor’s degree in technical management from DeVry Institute of Technology, as well as certifications in cybersecurity and design thinking.
