GCS Names New Principal for Brooks Global Studies
Mary Sluder joins from Washington Montessori

Mary Sluder will become principal of Brooks Global Studies, the district announced Tuesday. Sluder is the current assistant principal at Washington Montessori, a role she’s held since 2018.

As an assistant principal she led the restructuring of kindergarten and fourth-grade literacy instruction in alignment with the science of reading and student data. Her leadership helped students meet or exceed growth in most grade levels in both math and reading during the 2021-22 school year.

She was a curriculum facilitator and elementary school teacher. She holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Meredith College, licensure in English as a Second Language from N.C. State University and a master’s degree in executive leadership studies from Gardner-Webb University.
