Monday, August 14

GCS Welcomes International Teachers – GCS Human Resources Representatives will welcome more than 40 international teachers. The orientation will equip teachers with tools to adjust to living in Greensboro and be successful in GCS. The orientation will take place at Ragsdale High School at 10:00 a.m.

Tuesday, August 15

On-The-Spot Hiring Fair - The GCS Human Resources Department will host a fall hiring blitz. Representatives will accept applications, interview and hire for a range of positions, including ACES, Teacher Assistants, Custodians, Maintenance, Exceptional Teachers, Office Support and Transportation. The hiring fair is from 9:00 a.m. to noon at Smith High School.

A Simple Gesture – Guilford County Schools will recognize A Simple Gesture. The non-profit organization has donated new refrigerators to all GCS comprehensive schools that do not have a refrigerator. The donations are meant to minimize food waste and will preserve excess snacks, drinks and produce that would ordinarily be thrown away. Students will have access to the refrigerators and can pick up food whenever they need it. The recognition will be held at Swann Middle School at 11:00 a.m.

Virtual Transportation Assistance – The GCS Transportation Department will host its first of two virtual sessions. Families can learn information on several topics, including how to request a ride, download the “Here Comes the Bus,” whom to call for help and submit bus appeals. The session is from noon to 1:00 p.m. Families can register by visiting the Guilford Parent Academy site at www.gcsnc.com and clicking on the event on the calendar.

Dr. Oakley Visits Schools- Dr. Oakley will visit several schools to highlight the start of the new school year. The visitation schedule is as follows:

 - 10:30 am - Johnson Street Global
 - 11:30 am - Allen Jay Prep
 - 12:30 pm - GTCC-Jamestown
 - 2 pm - Middle College at UNCG
 
HELPFUL INFORMATION FOR PARENTS

Summer Meals - Young people living in Guilford County can receive free breakfast and lunch. More than twenty school and community locations host summer meal distributions. Meals are available Monday through Thursday from 8 to 9 a.m. for breakfast and 11 a.m. to noon for lunch for people ages eighteen and younger. The last day of distribution is August 17. An interactive map located on the district’s data dashboard allows families to input their zip code and find school and community meal sites closest to them.
