Monday, August 21

Southern Soars to New Heights – Southern Middle School is hosting a team building event at Ignite ParTee on Holden Road to celebrate the upcoming school year. School and some district staff will play games, showcase their putt putt and Go Cart driving skills. The team building event is from 10:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Tuesday, August 22

High School Open Houses – Open houses for high schools will be held today. Families should check with their child’s school for information on what time their open house will be held.

Wednesday, August 23

Back-to-School Media Briefing – Dr. Oakley will share information for parents during the annual GCS back-to-school media briefing. The event starts at 10:00 a.m. at Mendenhall Middle School.

Middle School Open Houses – Open houses for middle schools will be held today. Families should check with their child’s school for information on what time their open house will be held.

Thursday, August 24

Topping Off Ceremony – District, City and County leaders will come together to celebrate a major milestone in the GCS bond project journey. A topping off ceremony will be held at Claxton Elementary school at 11:00 a.m.

Elementary School Open Houses – Open houses for elementary schools will be held today. Families should check with their child’s school for information on what time their open house will be held.

Friday, August 25

High Point Central Freshman Orientation – High Point Central High will host a day of activities and excitement for incoming first-year students. They’ll learn tools they can use to be a successful bison. After the orientation, the school will host a carnival for students and their families. The orientation is from 8:30 am – 12:30 p.m.

HELPFUL INFORMATION FOR PARENTS

Summer Meals - Young people living in Guilford County can receive free breakfast and lunch. More than twenty school and community locations host summer meal distributions. Meals are available Monday through Thursday from 8 to 9 a.m. for breakfast and 11 a.m. to noon for lunch for people ages eighteen and younger. The last day of distribution is August 17. An interactive map located on the district’s data dashboard allows families to input their zip code and find school and community meal sites closest to them.
