Monday, August 8,

First Day of School – Students on the Extended Year calendar will return to the classroom for the 2022-23 school year. Dr. Oakley will visit the Academy at Smith at 1:00 pm and Brooks Global Studies at 2:00 pm to meet with students and staff in celebration of the start of the school year.

Dudley Meet and Greet – Dudley High School will host a meet and greet with its new principal Dr. Marcus Gause. Dr. Gause is the former principal at Andrews High School in High Point. Families can meet and learn about Dr. Gause from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the school’s auditorium.

Tuesday, August 9

Retirement Celebration - Guilford County Schools will celebrate the combined centuries of service of our retirees. Attendants will hear special messages and receive small tokens of gratitude. The event will take place at The Colonnade at Revolution Mill from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm.

Community Chat and Chew- The principal of Southwest Guilford High School is hosting a community discussion. The public can stop by for refreshments and learn about partnerships, social media, parent and community engagement with the school as well as campus updates. The chat and chew is from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm in the media center.

Wednesday, August 10

Summer Graduation – Guilford County Schools is proud to celebrate the class of 2023. The district will hold its summer commencement ceremony at UNCG Auditorium at 6:00 pm.

Helpful Information For Parents

Summer Meals - Young people living in Guilford County can receive free breakfast and lunch. More than twenty school and community locations host summer meal distributions. Meals are available Monday through Thursday from 8 to 9 a.m. for breakfast and 11 a.m. to noon for lunch for people ages eighteen and younger. The last day of distribution is August 17. An interactive map located on the district’s data dashboard allows families to input their zip code and find school and community meal sites closest to them.
