Greensboro, N.C. – Guilford County Schools (GCS) school buses will start rolling for the 2022-23 school year on Thursday, August 4. Over the next three weeks, 38 schools will begin classes.

The start dates are:

-August 4 – (Early and Middle Colleges and Academies)

-August 9 – (Extended Year Schools)

-August 15 – (Restart Schools)

Educators are excited to see more than 68,000 students entering our schools and classrooms ready to begin the new school year, many for the very first time.

Families should note that calendars for the early and middle colleges are designed to align with the college campuses on which they are located. Schools on the extended-year calendar attend an extra 20 days per year. Traditional schools will begin on Monday, August 29.

Because student safety is such a high priority, GCS continues our ongoing work on making security enhancements. Students in some schools will notice a few changes on the first day. Students attending the district’s comprehensive high schools will enter their school through touchless security scanners. Other safety enhancements will be added throughout the 2022-2023 school year.

The federal program covering the costs of school meals has ended. Families will now need to apply online to receive free meals by visiting www.lunchapplication.com. Lastly, the Here Comes the Bus app will launch on August 29. For important information about going back to school, click here.
