HOLIDAYS AT HIGHFIELD
November 25 - December 11 (weekends)
10:00 am - 4:00 pm
$10.00/person

Inspired by the theme Home for the Holidays, event stylist Rita Pacheco returns to lead the holiday transformation of Highfield Hall by masterfully blending old world charm with contemporary elements! The Holidays at Highfield for 2022 presents another year of spectacular decorating and seasonal activities and performances. This year a new creche collection display shown with paintings by Marielouise Hutchinson of beautiful rural winter scenes will be on view in its own first floor gallery.

Enjoy music, crafts and a variety of scheduled music performances will occur each open day. Join us for traditional holiday songs performed by the Victorian Carolers, harp music, pianists playing old and new favorites on the concert grand, performances by the acapella group “Notescape”, and contemporary and traditional guitar with Michael Oakland.

Students from the New England Ballet Theater will perform Nutcracker vignettes in the Hall one day and Turning Pointe Dance Studio will grace the outdoor patio once again. Storyteller Jackson Gilman will regale kids of all ages with stories on the back porch. Our newest addition this year, the Snow Queen, a special friend of St. Nick, will make regular appearances on the weekends to delight children of all ages and listen to their holiday hopes!

Festive culinary and floral classes are scheduled throughout these weeks. Gingerbread House decorating, bread making, and Holiday Tabletop Boxwood Tree design are all on the schedule. These classes fill up fast, so check out the website for dates and pricing information.

There are countless ways to get in the holiday spirit at Holidays at Highfield with opportunities to make something for those on your gift list at the drop-in arts and crafts space filled with materials and supplies for all sorts of merry making. The Gift Gallery will once again be alive with artisan gifts for all ages. Come on in and complete your Holiday shopping at Highfield Hall & Gardens.

To attend Holidays at Highfield, we recommend visitors pre-register, although walk-ins are possible if space allows.

Holidays at Highfield: Home for the Holidays is made possible in part by generous funding from the Martha’s Vineyard Bank Charitable Foundation, Cape Cod Five and Rockland Trust.

We strongly encourage pre-registration but will accept walk-ins. We are limiting the number of attendees per block of time and pre-registration allows for a quicker check in.

FULL MOON REIKI RESET

GUIDED RELAXATION AND SOUND BATH
NEW Online Fall Series
7:00 pm - 8:00 pm (EST)
$20/members $25/non-members

Please join Victoria and Yves Vandeplas for this virtual guided breathing and relaxation, followed by a planetary gong and crystal bowl sound bath with energetic reiki harmonization.

The full moon is a time to let go of anything that no longer serves you, and create space for anything you’d like to call in during the weeks ahead. For those who are sensitive, the energy of the full moon also tends to intensify whatever emotional state you are in, so it’s the perfect time to get centered.

We suggest that you attend the zoom class somewhere where you can lie down, wear comfortable clothes, have a blanket or two handy, socks if your feet get cold and anything else you might want to feel comfortable lying down. For a better sound experience, please have earphones on for the sound bath portion of the class.

RECIPE OF THE WEEK FROM TARA BURKE

TURKEY ROULADE

Not everyone has large crowds for Thanksgiving and I have found this recipe to be a great addition to my holiday line up for a small gathering at Thanksgiving.

This recipe is easily adapted to add your favorite stuffing items. One year I included prosciutto and always increase the amount of mushrooms!

It is simple and delicious recipe with plenty of left overs! Enjoy!

GARDEN TIP FROM GEORGE CHAPMAN

REMOVING FOLIAGE FROM ANNUALS

Every summer I plant a few annuals in the garden to create an accent or focal point in the landscape. A few impatiens here, a group of super petunias there; it doesn’t take much to create that extra interest. By this time of year any extra interest value is long gone, and it is time for them to go.

Years ago, I would pull them all up and lug them off to the compost pile. One year, in an enlightened moment, I realized that I was pulling up a rootball of some pretty nice potting soil with each and every plant. This was not just a waste of some of the best growing medium going, but it also made for some pretty heavy trips to the compost pile.

I now cut the annuals off at ground level and leave the rootball in the ground. The soil of a few dozen 4- or 6-inch size pots can make a nice contribution to the organic matter content of the garden.
