HIGHFIELD HALL & GARDENS SUNKEN GARDEN

When the world wearies and society fails to satisfy, there is always the garden. - Minnie Aumonier

Restoration of our Historic Sunken Garden is complete! Over the past few months our Landscape Director, George Chapman carefully curated the new garden design and with the help of Facilities Director, Larry Silva, volunteers from the community, Eversource, and horticulture students from Upper Cape Tech, they worked tirelessly planting 335 Japanese Dwarf Holly, 48 rose bushes, 32 hydrangea, and a myriad of perennial bulbs.

Highfield was able to realize the vision for the new garden with thanks to the generosity of Joan and Stephen Clark. The Clarks have been long-time supporters of Highfield and recognized the importance of bringing the Sunken Garden back to life! We’d also like to thank Spring Meadow Nursery in Grand Haven, MI for the generous donation of the rose bushes and hydrangea; and Sylvan Nursery in Westport, MA for a discounted rate on the Japanese Holly. We encourage you to support the businesses who support Highfield.

Be sure to visit the garden throughout the year to experience all that will be in bloom!

MEMBER PREVIEW A SUCCESS!

Highfield members enjoyed
no blue no green & Entanglement Preview
May 1, 2023

Thank you to all members who joined us for our new exhibition opening,

Spring was truly in the air Monday afternoon for the preview of no blue no green and Entanglement. Guests enjoyed a relaxed Q & A and socializing with artists Nancy Grice and Sven Atema at Monday’s Member Preview.

Unique and unexpected things happen in the galleries on preview day, and we heard from our members how important it is to meet exhibiting artists and our preview events are the best way to do that. Hour-long curatorial tours are on the schedule again for these shows so you can still benefit from learning about the artists, and their processes and inspirations.

The tours will be on Wednesday May 10 and May 24, beginning at 11am. Free with admission, and preregistration recommended. Click the link to register.

Both exhibits opened May 2nd and close June 11th 2023.
