Lord of the Rings
Walk Into Morder Challenge

September 22nd is Bilbo and Frodo's Birthday!.
In honor of their birthdays, keep track of your miles and at the end of the month we will see how close we got to Mordor!

The estimated distance in the books is about 1900 miles, so we will be counting 1 mile of real life distance as 20 miles in Middle Earth!

REMEMBER: Although we are calling this the Walk to Mordor Challenge, one need not walk in order to participate! The Fellowship didn't have bicycles or wheelchairs, but we know many in our community either prefer to or must travel using these means.

Please note: You do not need to register for this program. Just keep track of your physical activity.

Join us on our quest! Middle Earth is counting on you! You can come in and pick up your distance log at the Reference desk!

Adult Services Programs and Events

From Crafts, to Book Clubs, To Library After Dark Special Events, we have a lot of great programs happening at the library this month!  Visit our website to register or to learn more information!

Holbrook Library Fund

Updates from the Fund
The Fund has been hard at work this summer!  Due to the Massachusetts Cultural Council awarding the Library a $38,000 grant and the generous support of our  Putt and Pour Sponsors and guests whichhelped to raise over $10,000, the Fund has been able to order a new Book Drop for the Library parking lot, has commissioned a Building Conditions Assessment to determine the long term structural integrity of the building,  to identify opportunities to improve Accessibility to current Library services/expand future Library services, and also to formulate a Road Map for potential redesign of the basement level to expand Meeting Space and Usability.

There will still be some available funds to allow some additional fun improvements.  Some of the things that are being discussed are new furniture for the Teen Zone, Large graphic murals for the Teen Zone and new Early Literacy Zone, and additional improvements to our signage, tables, and technology to improve accessiblity access.  The Fund will be actively seeking grant funding to continue their efforts in ensuring the long term viability of the Library.

If you are looking for ways to get involved in supporting the Library on a large scale, but that doesn't require a large time investment, please consider looking into joining the Library Fund! Information can be found on the Library website under the Support Your Library Icon.

News and Notes

The Library Will Be Closed on Saturday, September 2, Sunday, September 3, and Monday, September4 in Observance of Labor Day.

Our new Teen Zone is Open!  There will be a few more additions to the space, but it is ready for all of our Teens/Tweens to enjoy an area meant just for them!
