HMTC condemns the antisemitic actions of Roger Waters, founder and former lyricist for the rock band Pink Floyd. Waters, who recently performed in Germany, invoked and equated the murder of Anne Frank and her entire family, who were discovered by Nazis after hiding in an attic, to the death of Al Jazeera reporter Shireen Abu Akleh, who was tragically struck and killed by a stray bullet while covering an Israeli military raid on terrorists in the West Bank. Waters also dressed up in an SS-style uniform and trivialized the Holocaust.

His May 17 performance was at Berlin's Mercedes-Benz Arena, where Jews were gathered during the Holocaust, before being deported to forced labor and death camps. Waters has made strong statements like this many times over the years, while often claiming he has no antisemitic intent. The fact that he still has so many fans, including fans in Germany, further illustrates the antisemitic forces at play in the world. HMTC will continue to speak out each and every time we hear about these public acts of hate.
