Summer Reading 2023: All Together Now

Monday, May 22-Sunday, August 6 in the Children’s Department

(Ages 0-12) Summer is finally her, and we are ready for another spectacular summer reading program with you! Starting on May 22, come by the Homewood Public Library’s Children’s Department or visit our website at www.homewoodpubliclibrary.org/sr to sign up for summer reading. Once signed up, come pick up a goodie bag and a free book! You’ll receive a calendar reading log to track each day you read or listen to an audiobook. Bring your log to our children’s desk, and for every 3 days you mark off, you will earn an entry for our monthly drawings. A handful of winners are going to be picked at the end of every summer month.

(Preschool) Start a beautiful morning with our favorite storytellers as they share interactive stories and energetic songs everyone can join in on.

Dog Day Afternoon

Thursday, June 8, from 3:30-4:15 p.m. in the Large Auditorium

(All Ages) The Greater Birmingham Humane Society and their dogs are coming to talk about the importance of adoption and fun ways you can help. Local author, Mary Anne Freeman, will also be sharing a story about her special dog on wheels.

Local for Littles: Karate Kids with Oyama Karate

Wednesday, June 14, from 3:30-4:15 p.m. in the Large Auditorium

(All Ages) Try out some fun karate moves with this demonstration from Shihan Dai Karl of World Oyama Karate, the international karate organization that started right here in Homewood!

Pre-K Play
Fridays, June 16 and 30, from 9:30-11 a.m. in the Round Auditorium
(Preschool) Stay cool and enjoy a passive playtime with your toddler every other Thursday afternoon.

(All Ages) Salamanders love Homewood, and the volunteers from the Friends of Shades Creek will tell us why. Check for these slimy creatures around your neighborhood, because they might just be living near you!

(All Ages) Join us for Alabama Ballet’s Dance Discovery program! This educational program will teach us about the way ballet dancers move “all together now,” such as the swans in Swan Lake, called corp de ballet!
