Summer Adventure ~ The adventure Continues

Summer Adventure 2023 has come to a close! Throughout the span of seven weeks, children ranging from ages 5 to 11 embarked on exciting activities centered around each week's theme. The kids, along with the HLM staff, had so much fun partaking in our delightful daily 'adventures'! Each day began with a morning story circle, which set the tone for a day filled with art, games, tending to the garden's vegetables and caterpillars, painting rocks, and even finding crickets. The main activity of each day was not only related to the weekly theme, but frequently incorporated STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) to ensure a truly enjoyable *and* educational experience.

We had an absolute blast creating tide pool viewers, experimenting with making s'mores in homemade 'solar ovens' (with varying degrees of success), crafting glow in the dark jellyfish mobiles, and even had a special visit from Sally Snowman, the lighthouse keeper at Boston Light! However, what truly warmed our hearts was witnessing the formation of numerous new friendships. Many of our 'Summer Adventurers' spontaneously planned playdates and exchanged phone numbers, serving as a delightful reminder of the pure magic that comes with good old-fashioned childhood fun during the summertime.

Thank you to our Summer Adventure Staff: Meaghan, Charlotte, Aidan, Luke and Milo!

Summer Explorer - Year One!

What a great summer we had with HLM’s inaugural year of its “Summer Explorer” program. The goal of the program is to offer 7 weeks of fun and learning on the coastal waters of Hull Bay to youths ages 12 -16. With a different maritime theme each week, the sessions were always fresh and exciting. The weekly themes were: Introduction to Open Water Rowing and Boating Safety, Marine Environment and Ecology, Basic Powerboat Operation, Island Exploration, Boat Construction and Maintenance, Art on the Harbor, Coastal Marine Piloting. We were out on the water almost every day in rowing vessels and powerboats. I had a lot of fun and a lot of help from our leaders: Devon, Ashley, Nicole, and Caleb. Thank you to the staff and the participants who combined to make the program fun and informative. - Mike McGurl
