Dear ICA LA Community,

We’ve been watching it take shape for years, and now the Sixth Street Viaduct, connecting the Arts District of DTLA to Boyle Heights, opens this weekend! Designed by local architect Michael Maltzan, it is the largest bridge project in the history of Los Angeles. Known as the “Ribbon of Light” with ten pairs of elegant arches, the bridge is sure to become a treasured landmark and a popular destination. With pedestrian and bike lanes providing accessibility for all, the site will eventually include a 12-acre park under the bridge with access to the LA River, an arts plaza, recreational facilities, and other amenities. Find out more about the bridge and opening activities here

In conjunction with our current exhibition The Condition of Being Addressable, we hosted a dynamic intergenerational roundtable discussion Address and Assembly from the 1960s to Today featuring artists Lynn Hershman-LeesonE. Jane, Mary Kelly, Imran Perretta, and Zadie Xa moderated by co-curators Marcelle Joseph and Legacy Russell. Catch it online on Wednesday, July 13 at 6pm PT.

Our next reading group—in collaboration with the Feminist Center for Creative Work—is less than three weeks away on Wednesday, July 27 from 7-9pm PT at the museum, so be sure to get your copy of Glitch Feminism: A Manifesto by Legacy Russell, co-curator of The Condition of Being Addressable. Come by and see the exhibition and pick up your copy or purchase it online here

Cone of Power, a dance film created by Lara Schnitger and Kitty McNamee during the final hours of last fall’s group exhibition Witch Hunt, is only on view in our Annex through Sunday, July 17. Do not miss this transfixing meditation on Skyclad ritual, incantation, civic protest, and the power of the witching hour. Need more mystery, magic, and transformation in your life? We got you.

Come spend a day in the Arts District! Visit The Condition of Being Addressable and Cone of Power at ICA LA, check out the Sixth Street Viaduct, pop into Artists & Craftsman Supply for those materials you’ve been meaning to get, have lunch at Guerilla Tacos or Yangbang Society, grab a coffee at Maru, do a little shopping at The Good Liver, and stock up on great wines at Wine Stop. There is so much to do in the Arts District, and it’s all within walking distance of ICA LA!

See you soon,

Team ICA LA
