Dear ICA LA Community,

Thank you to all who joined us last week for our free workshops as part of the Printed Matter LA Art Book Fair! Our book-related programming continues with ICA LA’s Bookshelf Residency , currently featuring Cardboard House Press and Reparations Club. Read more about the residency below and check out the many books available in our ICA LA Shop!

This month, we are closing out the summer season with a handful of programs that you do not want to miss. Coming up on Saturday, August 26, we have Back-to-Back Artist-led Tours with Phung Huynh and Bruce Yonemoto. In partnership with the Wende Museum, this is a day that will celebrate 
contemporary art from Vietnam on view in LA (including Tr??ng Công Tùng at ICA LA), made complete with a list of delicious Vietnamese restaurants to enjoy between tours.

On Wednesday, August 30, in conjunction with Carmen Argote: I won’t abandon you, I see you, we are safejoin us for IN PROCESS with Carmen Argote and collaborator Daniela Lieja Quintanar. This special exhibition walkthrough will feature a handmade miniature of the ICA LA exhibition and take place at Argote's home and studio in Boyle Heights. That Friday, September 1Art Buzz is back with an exhibition tour and talk with Argote, philosopher Rossen Ventzislavov, and ICA LA Senior Curator 
Amanda Sroka. Then on Wednesday, September 6, we will host a final program focusing on process and collaboration as it relates to Argote’s work and exhibition.

For those who can’t join us in person, ICA LA's YouTube channel is here to provide you with virtual exhibition walkthroughs and opportunities to explore past programs, including the recent lecture by 
Auttrianna Ward on Alberta Whittle: between a whisper and a cry and a memorable performance and talk by Jason R. Nguy?n on Tr??ng Công Tùng.

As a reminder, ICA LA and its programs are always free and open to all. Whether virtually, or in person, we hope to see you soon and invite you to take in the last days of our summer exhibitions, which remain on view through Sunday, September 10.

Back-to-Back Artist-Led Tours: Phung Huynh and Bruce Yonemoto
Saturday, August 26, 10:30am–5pm, In-person
Wende Museum and ICA LA

In collaboration with the Wende Museum, join us for two special artist-led tours focusing on contemporary art from Vietnam currently on view in Los Angeles. The day begins at the Wende with a tour of Vietnam in Transition: 1976–Present led by artist and educator Phung Huynh and ends at ICA LA with a tour of Tr??ng Công Tùng led by artist Bruce Yonemoto. Between the tours, visitors are encouraged to enjoy a delicious lunch at one of the recommended Vietnamese restaurants listed here. The day concludes with a reception at ICA LA where Vietnamese snacks and refreshments will be served.

CAL IRL @ ICA LA 
Saturday, August 26, 11am–1pm, In-person

Contemporary Art League (CAL) is a growing trade cooperative building unity, solidarity, and equity among art workers in Los Angeles County. CAL IRL @ ICA LA is an informal monthly gathering for artists and art workers to listen, talk, get inspired, and take action. CAL will share ideas, resources, drinks, and snacks. All self-identified art workers are welcome, and families are encouraged. Feel free to drop in at any time in the two-hour window to get together in the spirit of shared causes and collective care.

Join us for a unique exhibition walkthrough of Carmen Argote: I won’t abandon you, I see you, we are safe with artist Carmen Argote and curator Daniela Lieja Quintanar focusing on their shared collaborative process. In the spirit of Argote's daily walking practice, attendees have the option to start the evening by joining Argote on a walk from the museum to the artist's home where there will be a tour of a handmade model of Argote’s ICA LA exhibition. The tour begins at 7pm, followed by light refreshments. ICA LA staff will walk back to the museum at 8pm for those who wish to join.

Art Buzz: Philosophical Provocations with Carmen Argote, Amanda Sroka, and Rossen Ventzislavov
Friday, September 1, 6:30–8pm, In-person

Join us for a walkthrough of Carmen Argote: I won't abandon you, I see you, we are safe with artist Carmen Argote, ICA LA Senior Curator Amanda Sroka, and philosopher Rossen Ventzislavov. The group will discuss the philosophical aspects of Argote's process, as well as the improvisations and gentle conceptual provocations that emerged over the course of the exhibition period.

ON PROCESS: A Conversation About Collaboration

Join us for a final program and conversation reflecting on process and collaboration in Carmen Argote: I won’t abandon you, I see you, we are safe. As part of the exhibition, Carmen Argote and invited collaborators including her mother, Carmen Vargas, as well as Young Chung, Daniela Lieja QuintanarMary McGuire, and C?dric Tai, participated in collective actions that allowed the exhibition, like Argote’s work, to evolve over time. The discussion be moderated by ICA LA Senior Curator Amanda Sroka and will touch upon how collaboration informed the creation of, and care for, the exhibition over the last four months and speak to ideas of mothering, maintenance, intimacy, and learning as they relate to Argote’s work and the collaborative process.
