Conversation & Book Signing
Date & Time: Saturday, June 17, 2-4pm

Join us for a lively afternoon with Archana Horsting and Richard Whittaker in conversation about the artist’s retrospective exhibition at Kala, On the Fringe of the Field, A Survey of Works 1972–2022. The show features prints, drawing, and paintings that celebrate Archana’s artistic vision and art practice, creativity, and contributions as an artist and arts leader—building vibrant cultural communities at Kala, in the Bay Area, and beyond.

The catalog, designed by Lesley Gasparetti, contains a forward by Mayumi Hamanaka, commentary by Kate Eilertsen, Berin Golonu and Richard Whittaker and color reproductions of Archana's work. 2022-2023 School Year Wrap Up

It's a wrap! Thank you to all of our students, families, teachers, artists, and partnering schools for a year full of creativity, art, and joy! This year, we held after school classes at Kala which included After School Studio (1st-5th) and Teen Studio classes (6th-12th). Through the Artist in Schools (AIS) residency program, Kala teaching artists worked during and after school hours with local schools throughout the East Bay, including schools in Berkeley (Berkeley High AHA, King Middle School, Berkeley Arts Magnet, Emerson Elementary, John Muir Elementary, Malcolm X Elementary, Washington Elementary); in Emeryville (Anna Yates Elementary and Emery High School); and Alternatives in Action High School in Oakland.

Shout out to all of our amazing teaching artists who helped make this year such a blast! Thank you to all: Natalie Palms, Yael Levy, Lee Oscar Gomez, Ellena Ruiz-Lindsey, Joey Rose, champoy lim, Ali Vaughan, Etty Alberto, Judit Navratil, Jill McLennan, Corduroy Joan, Alexandra Bowman, and Angie Wilson. Many thanks to volunteers Gilda Magaña and Sonia Lopez for your support.

¡ Hasta la próxima! Until next year! We can't wait to see you all again soon!
