Screenprinting Basics

Tuesdays, Jan 16-Feb 20, 6-9pm

Instructor: Ryan Harrison

Location: Kala Printmaking Studio

In this introductory class we will cover all aspects of the screenprinting process: film and stencil setup, screen exposure, press setup and registration, ink mixing, and printing techniques. Students will create an edition of single color prints and an edition of prints utilizing 2-4 colors. No prior experience necessary!

Digital Photography Basics

Thursdays, Jan 18-Feb 8, 6-9pm

Instructor: Joffrey Baylon

Location: Kala Printmaking Studio

Explore fundamental photographic concepts of exposure, composition, lighting, and subject matter. Unlock the potential of digital photography and embark on a journey of visual storytelling and creative expression. All experience levels welcome!

Participants should bring their own DSLR or mirrorless digital camera. Kala has a limited number of cameras for use.

Linocut Printing: Pattern Design on Fabric

Thursdays, Jan 18 & 25, 6-9pm

Instructor: Alyssa Aviles

Location: Kala Printmaking Studio

Learn to create a patterned piece of fabric or clothing using carved linoleum blocks and different methods of printing on fabric. Students are invited to bring clothing to up-cycle with their designs.

Intro to Botanical Drawings

Tuesdays, Feb 6-March 5, 6-9pm

Instructor: Eva-Maria Spampinato

Location: Kala Community Classroom

In this introductory drawing class, participants will learn about observational drawing and practice drawing techniques, all while learning the history of botanical drawings (or drawings of plant matter).

Teen Studio Programs

Register today for Kala's Teen Studio art program! Designed for young artists in grades 6th-12th, our classes provide skill-based hands-on projects, and activities to create a space for inquiry, self-expression, reflection, and collaboration.

Whether learning a new art practice or developing their technical and conceptual skills, participants explore a variety of visual art media, experiment with techniques and materials, and dive deep into the creative process.

Drawing for Teens (Winter)

During this 9-week winter session, the class will focus on contemporary methods and techniques in drawing.

During this winter session, teens will continue to explore different modes of expression and creative processes while improving technical, representational, and conceptual skills in a supportive studio environment. All levels are welcome!

After School Studio Programs

Sign up today for our Spring 2024 After School Programs! Our fun and interactive art-making experiences are designed to nurture curiosity and creativity in young artists in 1st-5th grades.

Participants engage in skill-based instruction, hand-on structured projects, and open studio time to explore and experiment. Small classes allow our instructors, who are teaching artists, to create a fun, responsive, and supportive studio environment for all young artists to share and celebrate art. Projects will include painting, drawing, sculpture, fiber art, collage, photography, printmaking, book arts, clay, puppetry, and more!
