This holiday season, support the Bay Area creative community by shopping this special pop-up sale featuring local presses, zine publishers, artists, and more! From artist books and zines to posters, T-shirts, and mixtapes, you’re sure to find something unique for everyone on your list — including yourself!

This event take place on a First Thursday when museum admission is free to Bay Area residents.

Open Studio: Rayelle Gardner

Stop by Kala and meet 2022-2023 Fellowship Artist Rayelle Gardner!

Rayelle Janell Gardner is a Black queer image-maker from Queens, NY. Rayelle’s bio-mythographic art practice explores themes of interiority, memory, and fantasy. Through experimental portraiture and image making Rayelle sets out to provide a visual entryway into Black literature and storytelling. Rayelle’s work was featured on the cover of the Black Privacy Issue of The Black Scholar.

Rayelle is currently working on a series, “It’s motion, it’s trigger, it’s urgent”, using NYC nightlife photographs captured on film as a basis for screen printing explorations. Rayelle’s photographic interests include both staged portraits and impromptu moments caught at parties, nightclubs, and other environments of gathering and celebration.

We are excited to host the 2022 Holiday Art Pop-Up Shop at Kala Gallery! Join us for a fun and festive Pop-Up Shop with new work by Kala artists! Explore contemporary prints, talk to new and returning artists, and take home the holiday gift of art for your family and friends.

Participating artists: Chrissy Huhn, Karen Benioff Friedman, Leah Yael Levy, Saima Haq, Donna Brown, Heather Yeo, Jonathan, Kathryn Kenworth, Taylor, Mary Shisler, Whitney Humphreys, Marlys Mandaville, and Carol Ladewig.

In addition to the Pop-Up Shop visit us and check out the following events!

- 2 pm & 4 pm: Print Studio Tours starting in the Kala Gallery - first come, first served.

- 2-5pm: Open Studio for Fellowship Artist Rayelle Gardner
