McKnight Fellows at Kala

We loved hosting three McKnight Fellows from Minnesota this year - Ka Oskar Ly,  Richard Wiebe, and Josh Winkler. Kala is one of the partner sites participating in the McKnight Artist Residencies through the Artist Communities Alliance. Richard, Josh, and Ka all came to Kala at different times, joining a talented group of artist-in-residence already hard at work in Kala's print shop, digital lab, and darkroom. We loved learning about their diverse art practices.

Ka is a multidisciplinary Hmong artist and cultural producer whose work explores meaning and manifestation with an understanding that culture is dynamic where "art" and "queer" reflect ways of existing and imagination. Richard's moviemaking is influenced by interests in DIY methods of production, deep listening, history, memory, and the fragility of life. Josh works primarily with printmaking processes and his creative practice centers around personal experience in the landscape, historical research, and the magic and mystery of the natural world.

We continue to be incredibly grateful for the opportunity to participate in this program as we look forward to hosting four new artists later this year and into 2024!
