Kansan to Kansan: Week of February 6, 2023

Government and Politics

February 11, 2023

From: Kansas Governor Laura Kelly

Governor Kelly Visits Pittsburg to Discuss How “Axing Your Taxes” Plan Will Help Kansas Families

"Thanks to years of responsible budget management, we’re able to afford to put money back in Kansans’ pockets without putting our children’s education on the chopping block or breaking the bank. The ‘Axing Your Taxes’ plan will provide relief to Kansans in every corner of our state, including in Southeast Kansas. I look forward to continuing to work with The Family Resource Center and Live Well Crawford County to ease this unnecessary financial burden for our families."

Governor Kelly Announces Introduction of Medicaid Expansion Legislation

"I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: expanding Medicaid will not only provide health care to hundreds of thousands of hardworking Kansans, it will also boost our economy, strengthen rural communities, and bring hard-earned dollars back to our state. Expanding Medicaid has received the bipartisan support of 39 other states, including every one of our neighbors. We must get this done."

Governor Kelly Shares Agriculture Priorities at Kansas Farm Bureau Day at the Statehouse

"There are nearly 60,000 farms in Kansas, and nearly 50,000 of those are family- or individually owned. It’s important that our farmers, including our family farmers, are part of every budget decision and every policy change we make here in Topeka."

Governor Kelly Places Super Bowl Bet with Pennsylvania Governor Shapiro

"At the start of this NFL season, I placed the first legal sports wager in Kansas, betting on the Chiefs to win the Super Bowl. Now, I’m doubling down by putting on the line two of my favorite Kansas foods: our steaks and our sunflower seeds. I can’t wait to see Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs bring the Lombardi trophy back to the Red Kingdom and to celebrate by feasting on some Pennsylvania treats. Let’s go Chiefs!"
