From: Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear

FRANKFORT, Ky. – Today, Gov. Andy Beshear announced further economic growth in the state’s distribution and logistics industry as LandCal Logistics, a third-party logistics company providing end-to-end supply chain services, expands its Georgetown facility with a $600,000 investment creating 10 new full-time positions.

“While the commonwealth always encourages companies to bring in new business, the state thrives on Kentucky-founded companies like LandCal expanding its presence here,” said Gov. Beshear. “The success we’re seeing is thanks in large part to the people of the commonwealth continuing to invest and grow their businesses here. I want to thank LandCal’s leadership for doing exactly that and continuing to create quality jobs in the Georgetown area.”

LandCal will expand its Georgetown headquarters by adding an additional 5,400 square feet to its current 5,400-square-foot space. The company moved into the current space in October 2022 and will open a Unishippers franchise to offer small parcel/logistics solutions out of the Scott County facility.

“Kentucky is home, and it is with great enthusiasm that we continue to be committed to growing a reputable, sustainable business in the community of Scott County/Georgetown, Kentucky, where we live and serve,” said Joshua Landacre, LandCal co-founder and managing director. “It's truly a special place, where they have rallied around us as a start-up six years ago. We’re super-excited to reinvest back into the community we love by creating job opportunities in the logistics/supply chain industry.”

Founded in 2016, LandCal is now ranked 124th in Inc. 5000’s Fastest Growing Companies in the Southeast. LandCal deploys leading technology and talented professionals to deliver complex logistics services to bridge the gap between shippers and a network of over 50,000 carrier partners.

This expansion adds to Kentucky’s thriving distribution and logistics sector, which includes more than 600 facilities and employs over 91,000 people statewide. Administration-to-date, 120 new-location and expansion projects within the industry are expected to create more than 7,700 full-time jobs with over $2.2 billion in new investments.

Scott County Judge/Executive Joe Pat Covington congratulated LandCal on the expansion.

“It is great when you see a local company grow and decide to expand locally,” said Judge Covington. “I am excited for Georgetown that LandCal Logistics has decided to expand their business right here in Scott County. LandCal has developed into a logistics industry leader and adding jobs will benefit our community now and in the future. At the intersection of Interstate 75 and 64, Georgetown and Scott County is a great place for business. Congratulations to LandCal Logistics.”

Georgetown Mayor Burney Jenkins showed his support for retaining existing business in the area.

“The LandCal Logistics expansion project presents an incredible opportunity for the Georgetown/Scott County community,” Mayor Jenkins said. “Our economic vitality is heavily dependent upon our ability to retain existing businesses, incentivize the growth of these businesses, and focus on capital investments that ultimately bring quality jobs to our city and county. As Mayor of Georgetown, I am proud to support this project.”

Jack Conner, executive director of Scott County United Inc., said LandCal’s expansion aligns with the county’s priorities.

“The proposed expansion of LandCal Logistics is a perfect example of meeting one of the ‘Five High Demand Sector’ priorities to grow in Georgetown/Scott County and the commonwealth,” Conner said. “We could not be more pleased and prouder that LandCal decided to expand in Kentucky versus other options. We continue to be a business-friendly community open to growth.”

LandCal’s investment and job creation furthers recent economic momentum in the commonwealth, as the state builds back stronger from the effects of the pandemic.

Since the beginning of his administration, Gov. Beshear has announced the creation of 44,500 full-time jobs and more than 840 private-sector new-location and expansion projects totaling $25.6 billion in announced investments.

The Governor has now secured the best two-year period in state history for economic growth.

In 2021, the commonwealth shattered every economic development record in the books. Private-sector new-location and expansion announcements included a record $11.2 billion in total planned investment and commitments to create a record 18,000-plus full-time jobs across the coming years.

That momentum continued strongly into 2022 with 248 new-location and expansion announcements totaling 16,000 full-time jobs behind nearly $10.5 billion in new investment.

The robust job creation has been accompanied by rising wages across the commonwealth. The average incentivized hourly wage in 2022 was $26.78 before benefits, the second-highest mark since 2010 and an 11.5% increase over the previous year.

Gov. Beshear also announced the two largest economic development projects in state history. In September 2021, Gov. Beshear and leaders from Ford Motor Co. and SK Innovation celebrated a transformative $5.8 billion investment that will create 5,000 jobs in Hardin County. And in April 2022, the Governor was joined by leadership at Envision AESC to announce a $2 billion investment that will create 2,000 jobs in Warren County. These announcements solidify Kentucky as the EV battery production capital of the United States.

Kentucky’s success has been noted by both S&P Global Ratings and Fitch Ratings, which have upgraded the state’s financial outlook to positive in recognition of the commonwealth’s surging economy.

Site Selection magazine placed Kentucky second nationwide and first in the South Central region for its annual Governor’s Cup ranking for 2022, which recognizes state-level economic success based on capital investments.

Gov. Beshear’s administration is projected to post the four highest years of budget surpluses in Kentucky history, and the state’s rainy-day fund has a record balance of $2.7 billion.

Gov. Beshear recently announced a new “Supply Kentucky” initiative with the goal of boosting job growth, reducing costs and providing more security in the supply chains of our Kentucky companies.

The Governor also recently announced that Kentucky set the lowest annual unemployment rate in state history for 2022 at 3.9%. This is the lowest rate seen since the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics began reporting state unemployment rates in 1976.

To encourage investment and job growth in the community, the Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority (KEDFA) on Thursday preliminarily approved a 10-year incentive agreement with the company under the Kentucky Business Investment program. The performance-based agreement can provide up to $175,000 in tax incentives based on the company’s investment of $600,000 and annual targets of:

Creation and maintenance of 10 Kentucky-resident, full-time jobs across 10 years; and
Paying an average hourly wage of $30.16 including benefits across those jobs.

By meeting its annual targets over the agreement term, the company can be eligible to keep a portion of the new tax revenue it generates. The company may claim eligible incentives against its income tax liability and/or wage assessments.

In addition, LandCal can receive resources from Kentucky’s workforce service providers. Those include no-cost recruitment and job placement services, reduced-cost customized training and job-training incentives.
