August is here and it sure is hot outside! Whether you're looking to get out or want to stay in the air conditioning, we have the program for you. Read on below to see all the great stuff we have going on this month. Please note that Virtual Yoga is taking the month of August off, but will be back in September!

Have you checked out our Summer Reading bulletin board yet? It sits between the Children's Room and New Nonfiction, and it's the best way to see where your team is at in the race to read 250 books! We'll also be updating our progress on social media. There's still time to join a team and track your reading (and be entered into our raffles)--learn more information here.

Mantra Insect Shadow Boxes with Pop Up Art School
Monday, August 1 at 2:30 pm

Learn about the muralist Mantra, who paints giant trompe l'oeil insect shadow boxes on the sides of buildings around the world. You'll view slides of his work and pictures of the Harry C. Belcher Lepidoptera (butterfly & moth) Collection that's housed at Tufts Library in Weymouth Massachusetts.

Using images of butterflies, moths and beetles as reference, draw and paint your own realistic or imaginative insects and mount it in a paper shadow box.

Registration recommended as space is limited. Walk-ins will be taken if space allows. Please fill out a separate registration for each child/teen who will be participating in the art project.

Coloring Club for Adults
Tuesday, August 2 at 2 pm

Coloring has been proven to help adults relax and unwind! Join us on the Library Mezzanine for some social time and calming coloring. Coloring pages and colored pencils will be provided. Registration is recommended but not required.

Robert Rivest: Comic Mime at MarketStreet
Wednesday, August 3 at 11:30 am

This is a pure celebration of everything that we love about summer. Comic mime Robert Rivest performs his favorite stories about summer and invites audience members to join in. Stories about the sun, swimming, camping, travel, friendship, ice cream, late nights, lightning bugs and more! This fun family show is full of audience participation! In addition to Robert’s humorous and inspirational mime theater stories, everyone will learn amazing mime illusions and how to create their own mime story. Together, we will act out exciting characters and stories highlighting summer fun!

This program will be held on the MarketStreet Green. You are welcome to bring a blanket to sit on. No registration required. This program was generously funded by the Friends of the Lynnfield Library.

This program is geared towards children but all ages are welcome to attend.

Career Center on the Go with MassHire North Shore Career Center
Wednesday, August 3 at 12 pm

MASSHIRE North Shore Career Center is excited to bring the Career Center to communities looking to gain meaningful employment. During their visit, you will have an opportunity to select the services needed:

-Career Coach Advising - An opportunity to speak one on one with an Advising Coach about the possibility of ANY Training Opportunities offered at MassHire North Shore Career Center.

-Job Search Assistance - This is a unique chance to review the labor market in various industries and discuss salary expectations, résumé reviews, and connections with meaningful jobs and careers.

-Youth Career Center - Training Opportunities specifically for Youth, Career Pathways, and Summer Jobs.

-Veterans Service - Dedicated Veterans Employment Representative assisting our national Heroes with employment, trainings, and many other veterans-specific resources.

-Business Engagements - Meet a Business Engagement Professional who will assist businesses with job openings or referrals to state resources.

Adults and Teens

Story Time
Monday mornings at 10 am

Join us to sing songs and listen to stories! In July Story Time will move to Monday mornings to accommodate our Wednesday afternoon programs at MarketStreet.

This story time will be held outside on the Lynnfield Town Common if the weather is nice. You are welcome to bring a blanket or chair to sit on. In case of bad weather, story time will be held in the Meeting House across from the library.

Please note that indoor story time will have a capacity limit and attendees will be let inside in order of arrival (no registration). Outdoor story time does not have a capacity limit.

Story Time is recommended for children ages 5 and younger.

One World: A Story, Song, and Hands-on Musical Instrument Experience with John Porcino

Tuesday, August 9 at 2:30 pm

Acclaimed storyteller/musician John Porcino will take folks on a whirlwind tour around the world. He’ll tell funny and moving stories and play a variety of instruments. Then, children will be invited to learn about, touch, and play some of the instruments. John aims to give participants a taste test of the world we all share, and celebrate the similarities and differences that help make our world so sweet.


This program will be held outside on the Lynnfield Town Common. You are welcome to bring a blanket to sit on. No registration required.

This program is funded by a grant from the Lynnfield Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.

Ages 2-9

Financial Wellness with PNC Bank

Tuesday, August 9 at 6:30 pm

Join PNC Bank at the Lynnfield Public Library each month to build up your financial savviness. We are going to have a hybrid series where you can learn tips on budgeting, building your credit score, achieve your goals of purchasing a home and planning for retirement. Each month, we will build upon the prior month. Refreshments will be provided. Learn more and register here.

Lindsay & Her Puppet Pals
Wednesday, August 10 at 11:30 am

Lindsay’s funny, fast paced, and highly interactive variety show delights the young and the young at heart! Kids will meet several larger than life, hand crafted puppets... Perhaps a goofy moose, a heroic tiger, or a lovable bear. Oh my! Maybe a dancing robot or flamingo, an adorable mouse, a stubborn goat, a shy dragon, or a singing dinosaur! Come find out who's making an appearance this time! Lindsay has been performing full time since 2011, presenting to several thousand children each year. Through animated storytelling and thoughtful messaging, she hopes to inspire creative play, resilience, and empathy in even the youngest. She also believes shared joy and laughter strengthens communities.

This event will take place on The Green at MarketStreet Lynnfield. You are welcome to bring a blanket to sit on. No registration required.

Recommended for ages 3-8, but children of all ages and their families/caregivers are invited to join. 

Painting with Watercolors
Saturday, August 13 at 11 am

Come be creative and make beautiful art! We’ll put out some watercolor palettes and brushes for kids to experiment and have fun.

Registration required as space is limited.

ToBe Fit: The Juggling Nutrition Magician Show
Wednesday, August 17 at 3 pm

ToBe Fit, The Juggling Nutrition Magician Show, makes good eating and active living GREAT FUN! This rollicking, fun-filled performance features the power of live theater, amazing feats of juggling, music, magic, and audience participation to help kids develop healthy habits to last a healthy lifetime! 

This event will take place on the Lynnfield Town Common. You are welcome to bring a blanket or chair to sit on. No registration required.

Jumpin' Juba
Wednesday, August 17 at 6:30 pm

Join us for hand-made music, presented live and in real time on the Lynnfield Common. Jumpin' Juba will be playing music inspired by many flavors of American blues music, New Orleans swamp-rock, classic boogie-woogie, folk, Memphis rock & roll, and a playful use of everything from calypso to country are stirred into the band's blue stew.

No registration required.

All Ages

The Friends of the Lynnfield Public Library are accepting donations for the Fall Book Sale again. Please drop off gently used large hardcover or paperback books. We are not accepting mass market paperbacks, textbooks, DVDs, or board games at this time. Thank you!
