This weekend we have the honor of collaborating with the Cultural Affairs Office of the Consulate General of Israel to New England in presenting Israel’s Official Submission for the 94th Academy Awards -- LET IT BE MORNING.
NEW THIS WEEK...
LET IT BE MORNING is the story of Sami (Alex Bakri) a Palestinian-born Israeli citizen living in Jerusalem who receives an invitation to his brother’s wedding forcing him to return to the Arab village where he grew up. After the wedding finishes, with no explanation, Sami’s hometown is put under a military blockade lockdown by the Israeli government. Despite its melodramatic story, the movie also has dashes of humor and social commentary that are fairly bold and quite poignant. Anchored by Bakri’s complex performance, Let It Be Morning was directed by acclaimed Palestinian-Israeli auteur Eran Kolirin (THE BAND’S VISIT).

WOMEN TALKING — Do nothing. Stay and fight. Or leave. In 2010, the women of an isolated religious community grapple with reconciling a brutal reality with their faith. For years, the men have occasionally drugged the women and then raped them. The truth comes out and the women talk about their new situation. Sarah Polley’s film has been nominated for Best Picture and Adapted Screenplay Oscars, and co-stars Frances McDormand, Rooney Mara, Jessica Buckley, Judith Ivey, and Claire Foy.
NOMINATED OSCAR SHORTS — LIVE ACTION, ANIMATION, & DOCUMENTARY. For the 18th consecutive year, the Film Society presents the Oscar-Nominated Short Films. With all three categories rotating – Animated, Live Action and Documentary – this is your annual chance to predict the winners (and have the edge in your Oscar ballot)! A perennial hit with audiences around the country and the world, don’t miss this year’s selection of shorts. Playing until the Academy Awards on Sunday, March 12th. TURN EVERY PAGE explores the remarkable fifty-year relationship between two literary legends, writer Robert Caro and his longtime editor Robert Gottlieb. Now 86, Caro is working to complete the final volume of his masterwork, The Years of Lyndon Johnson; Gottlieb, 91, waits to edit it. The task of finishing their life’s work looms before them. With humor and insight, this unique double portrait reveals the work habits, peculiarities and professional joys of these two ferocious intellects at the culmination of a journey that has consumed both their lives and impacted generations of politicians, activists, writers, and readers.

Caleb Smith (Domhnall Gleeson), a programmer at an internet-search giant, wins a competition to spend a week at the private mountain estate of the company’s brilliant and reclusive CEO, Nathan Bateman (Oscar Isaac). Upon his arrival, Caleb learns that Nathan has chosen him to be the human component in a Turing Test—charging him with evaluating the capabilities, and ultimately the consciousness, of Nathan’s latest experiment in artificial intelligence.

LET IT BE MORNING is the story of Sami (Alex Bakri) a Palestinian-born Israeli citizen living in Jerusalem who receives an invitation to his brother’s wedding forcing him to return to the Arab village where he grew up. After the wedding finishes, with no explanation, Sami’s hometown is put under a military blockade lockdown by the Israeli government. When chaos erupts overnight amongst the villagers stuck behind the wall due to the blockade, Sami is cut off from the outside world and trapped in an unexpected situation. As he deals with questions about his own identity and hidden secrets are revealed, Sami watches everything he holds dear begin to fall apart. Written and directed by award-winning Israeli filmmaker Eran Kolirin (The Band’s Visit), and adapted from the international best-selling novel by Palestinian author Sayed Kashua, LET IT BE MORNING is a film about a state of siege, both internal and external – centered around a man who has built a wall around his heart, and how that inner wall starts coming apart when an actual, real wall goes up around his hometown.

WE’RE HIRING
Theatre Operations Coordinator
Theatre Coordinator is responsible for the daily/year-round operation of the film center/cinema and coordination of part-time and volunteer staff (when needed in summer) to operate the center efficiently (show management, concessions, maintenance, etc). The Theatre Operations Coordinator must ensure the successful execution of all film and non-film events on time collaborating with several colleagues. Work schedule is afternoon-nights, weekends, and some holidays: typical off-season schedule (September to June) is daily Wednesday, to Sunday 3-10 pm with occasional 1 pm matinees on weekend. In summer it’s 6-10 pm, 5-6 nights a week (we're open every night). Some deviations to this schedule occurs during the year.
