Celebrating 20+ years as the Vineyard's Premiere Non-Profit Member-Supported Film Organization

Happy New Year! This week and coming up at the MV Film Center - two new international features recently shortlisted for Oscar's Best International Film, CORSAGE and DECISION TO LEAVE, a special Sunday afternoon benefit for the VH Library, the Met Opera Live, and much more!

DECISION TO LEAVE — Winner of Best Director at Cannes in 2022, Park Chan-wook (Oldboy, The Handmaiden) returns with a seductive romantic thriller that takes his renowned stylistic flair to dizzying new heights. From a mountain peak in South Korea, a man plummets to his death. Did he jump, or was he pushed? When detective Hae-joon arrives on the scene, he begins to suspect the dead man's wife Seo-rae. But as he digs deeper into the investigation, he finds himself trapped in a web of deception and desire.

CORSAGE — Empress Elizabeth of Austria is idolized for her beauty and renowned for inspiring fashion trends. But in 1877, 'Sissi' celebrates her 40th birthday and must fight to maintain her public image by lacing her corset tighter and tighter. While Elizabeth's role has been reduced against her wishes to purely performative, her hunger for knowledge and zest for life makes her more and more restless in Vienna. With a future of strictly ceremonial duties laid out in front of her, Elizabeth rebels against the hyperbolized image of herself and comes up with a plan to protect her legacy. Recently selected for the Oscar® shortlist in the Best International Feature category for the 95th Academy Awards, and world premiered at Cannes, where star Vicky Krieps won the Un Certain Regard Best Performance Prize.

PLEASE NOTE on January 11th our 7:30pm start time is pushed back to 8:00pm due to our hosting of MVY Chamber Business After Hours 5:30-7:30pm.

I AND YOU

A fundraiser for the Vineyard Haven Library

Jan 8th @ 4:00 pm

Starring John Brannen and Beebee Horowitz from the Peter Luce Playreaders group, the play was written by award-winning Lauren Gunderson who has consistently cycled among the top 3 spots for most-produced playwrights in America - in 2019 alone, she had over 16 plays in production!! Needless to say, this play packs a punch, and as one reviewer has commented, "Unforgettable. The end will leave you gasping."

This event is a fundraiser for the Vineyard Haven Library's new Community Room. As those of you who have attended readings and lectures at the library can attest, this addition is desperately needed to provide a more spacious and technologically updated area for the library's ongoing programming for kids and adults.

Filmed comments before the play-reading from library supporters Al Franken, Livingston Taylor, Geraldine Brooks, Rose Styron and Arch Smith.

Please enjoy a wine reception afterward in our lobby courtesy of Our Market until 6:45PM!
