Arts and Entertainment

July 20, 2022

From: Martha's Vineyard Film Society

This week we present one of the hottest films of 2022 so far, Sundance Audience Award winner FIRE OF LOVE.  Sometimes curiosity and passion are stronger than fear... scroll down for the Kraffts' true story.  Also some pretty heated live theater from London.

National Theater Live: PRIMA FACIE — Jodie Comer (Killing Eve) makes her West End debut in the UK premiere of Suzie Miller’s award-winning play. Justin Martin directs this solo piece, captured live from the intimate Harold Pinter Theatre in London’s West End. Tessa is a young, brilliant barrister. She has worked her way up from working class origins to be at the top of her game; defending; cross examining and winning. An unexpected event forces her to confront the lines where the patriarchal power of the law, burden of proof and morals diverge.

FIRE OF LOVE tells the story of two French lovers, Katia and Maurice Krafft, who died in a volcanic explosion doing the very thing that brought them together: unraveling the mysteries of our planet, while simultaneously capturing the most explosive volcano imagery ever recorded. Along the way, they changed our understanding of the natural world and saved tens of thousands of lives. Previously unseen hours of pristine 16-millimeter film and thousands of photographs reveal the birth of modern volcanology through an unlikely lens — the love of its two pioneers.

FEATHERSTONE OUTDOOR MOVIE SERIES:

We are mask friendly, and encourage the continued use of masks throughout the performance.

These recommendations were made to protect those who are at increased risk of getting very sick with COVID-19. If you have questions about what your risk is, ask your primary care provider.

To minimize lines and promote touch less transactions, we suggest you purchase your tickets online in advance or use a credit card at our box office. We are accepting cold or warm cash again.

Good news! Concessions have Returned to the Film Center. Cash or credit cards can be used for purchases of refreshments at our concession.
