Arts and Entertainment

June 28, 2022

From: Martha's Vineyard Film Society

Summer Greetings,

Our 10th annual FILMUSIC festival ended on a high note Sunday night, actually many notes sung by the incomparable Dionne Warwick, in a powerful film co-directed by Dave Wooley and islander David Heilbroner.  We want to thank our sponsors, Visit, MA, MV Community Services, Tilton Tents, MV Chamber Society, and guests that helped make the festival a success.

We're excited to report that we've bought JAZZ FEST, a celebration of New Orleans music, food, and culture back this week and the opening of the 2022 Sundance Film Festival Audience Award winner -- CHA CHA REAL SMOOTH, a endearing romantic comedy about a children's party starter.

JAZZ FEST: A NEW ORLEANS STORY weaves together live performances and interviews from the 50th anniversary of The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, the signature annual music and cultural event of the city with hundreds of thousands of attendees each year. JAZZ FEST not only captures the Festival in all of its beauty and glory, but also delves deep into the rich culture and cuisine of The Big Easy.

CHA CHA REAL SMOOTH — is as charming as it gets, a delightful and bewitching story about growing up, getting out, and unscrambling the mysteries mysteries of finding your place in the world. Cooper Raiff writes, directs, and stars alongside Dakota Johnson, Brad Garrett, Leslie Mann and newcomers Vanessa Burghardt and Evan Assante in this tale of unconventional love that brims with emotional honesty. Sundance 2022 Audience Award Winner.

“LIVE" STAND-UP COMEDY NIGHT: NANCY NORTON, the WINNER of 2018 Boston Comedy Festival – the first woman to ever win it! Nancy draws material from everyday life experiences and growing up in a big Ozark family, working as a nurse, being a single mom, spending months in Nepal adopting her son and yes, there are a few airplane jokes. Universal truths and authentic experiences make Nancy’s humor accessible.

FEATHERSTONE OUTDOOR MOVIE SERIES: SUMMER OF SOUL

In his acclaimed debut as a filmmaker, Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson presents a powerful and transporting Academy Award winning documentary-part music film, part historical record created around an epic event that celebrated Black history, culture, and fashion.

MASKS ARE OPTIONAL

Update March 2nd

MASKS ARE NOW OPTIONAL FOR ALL INDIVIDUALS INSIDE, WHETHER VACCINATED OR NOT AT THE MV FILM CEMTER

Public health authorities on Martha’s Vineyard have updated their guidance on March 2nd to advise that you do not need to wear a mask upon entering and exiting the film center lobby and while in the theater during the performance.

We are mask friendly, and encourage the continued use of masks throughout the performance.

These recommendations were made to protect those who are at increased risk of getting very sick with COVID-19. If you have questions about what your risk is, ask your primary care provider.

WELCOME BACK TO THE MOVIES!

No more social distancing of seats, no more yellow t-shirts. However, continue to spread out in your seating as audiences sizes have not been at capacity.

To minimize lines and promote touch less transactions, we suggest you purchase your tickets online in advance or use a credit card at our box office. We are accepting cold or warm cash again.

Good news! Concessions have Returned to the Film Center. Cash or credit cards can be used for purchases of refreshments at our concession.

The theater is cleaned and sanitized daily, before, and after each showing. Sanitizers, disinfectant wipes, masks, bathrooms for hand-washing available.

We can’t wait to see you, but. . . if you are not feeling well or you've been in contact with someone that recently tested positive for COVID-19, we trust you will stay home until you are well!
