For many of us, going to the cinema has been a comforting ritual going back to childhood. When the ability to gather in the dark and watch a new movie was suspended, we realized just how much we missed that shared theatrical experience. 

Through all the ups and downs of the pandemic era, the Film Center continued to operate because of your support. But now, isn’t it time to enjoy that sense of wonder of cinema again? Theaters remain the best place to see a new movie. There’s something magical about the communal aspect of watching in the dark with others. 

In our recent survey, 95% of you described the Film Center as “valuable” to “extremely valuable” to your overall quality of life. You look to us to curate films for their artistry, appeal, or message. Films that most commercial theaters would not bother to show. And even if you aren’t attending as often as in the past, you are returning for special events like the Met Opera, National Theater, film festivals, and live performers like stand-up comedians, jugglers, hypnotists, and more. Providing these one-of-a-kind experiences is what makes the Film Center unique.

As 2023 beckons, your charitable donation will help us sustain our programming and allow us to remain open to serve our community. Every time an old friend makes a triumphant return to the theater, we can’t help but smile, knowing how hard it was to stay away. Just as rewarding, is watching newcomers visit the film center for the first time and remark “What a beautiful theater, I never knew this was here!” After 10 years, we’re still welcoming all that wander in.
