Greetings from Mastick Senior Center! 

If you are age 50+ and/or know of someone who is, then read on for exciting programs that Mastick Senior Center offers!  Membership is Free and Required to participate in Mastick programs.  Stop by the Mastick Lobby (Monday – Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.) or call 510-747-7500 to become a member or renew your membership.

Volunteer for the Alameda Recreation and Park Department's Recreation Afterschool Program (RAP)!

The Alameda Recreation and Park Department's RECREATION AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAM (RAP) is looking for Mastick Senior Center Members to join the team and assist with student participants from August 23, 2023 to June 5, 2024, for the upcoming 2023-24 school year.  The schedule is Wednesdays, 11:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. and will be provided to you.  You can notify the Program Supervisor if you are unable to work any days.

Volunteers Wanted!

The Mercy Brown Bag Program, facilitated by Mastick Senior Center, is in need of volunteers to assist with assembling and distributing grocery bags. 
The schedule is as follows:
1st & 3rd Thursday mornings of each month,
7:30 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.

Multimedia Art Exhibit Coming Soon!
Mastick Artists, Save the Dates:

- Tuesday, August 1 - Application forms are available in the Skill Center, Lobby and Office
- Wednesday, August 16 - Application forms and art due by 2:00 p.m. in the Mastick Office
- Tuesday, August 29 - Exhibit Opening Reception in the Mastick Lobby

Senior Connections & Resources
3rd Wednesday or each month, 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.

The Senior Connections Case Manager will facilitate, provide resources, referrals, and practical information to assist with working through life’s complex issues. Program provided by Alameda Family Services and funded in part by the Mastick Senior Center Advisory Board. Registration not required. If you have questions, call 510-747-7505.

A Life of Joy through Positive Intelligence
and Dream Building

Use successful techniques to delve into understanding what stands in the way of finding more happiness in our lives. Proven strategies to help us think, talk, and write about how we want our encore years to be more joyful and satisfying than we have permitted ourselves to imagine.
Meet our personal saboteurs, learn about the saboteurs’ lies, and successful ways to handle them. Learn how our brains work and how that impacts our paths toward happiness. Continue the work started in Holding Space 1, where we learned how to be better listeners and communicators. Transportation 101 - Transit App Training

Fitness for Seniors! Balance, Mobility & Stability
Tuesdays, September 5 - October 24, 5:15 p.m. - 6:05 p.m., Location: Room A
Cost: $59 ~ Class #23530

Join fellow seniors in a safe and welcoming environment to feel safe when moving from place to place. Practice gentle movements which will help improve your balance, mobility and stability. After taking this class you’ll be able to sit and stand easier. Taking this class may also decrease your probability of falling and prevent injury. Exercises for strength and flexibility will be featured. Soft ambient music will be played during the session. No class on 9/26.  To register, click here.

Yoga for Bone Health
Tuesdays, September 5 - October 24, 5:15 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.

Yoga to promote bone health, based on research by Dr. Loren Fishman, demonstrating that a targeted yoga practice can slow, stop, and even reverse the progress of osteopenia and osteoporosis, and prevent the development of these conditions in those who do not have them. Teens Teaching Technology (Seniors)

This program is a collaboration between the Mastick Senior Center and the ARPD Teen Programs. Teens will meet and assist Mastick members with their electronic devices in the Computer Lab (Room C). Mastick Thrift Shop

The Mastick Thrift Shop is open to the public on Tuesdays and Saturdays, 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Donations are accepted until FULL (space is limited) on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, 9:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.  

Mastick Program Guidelines

We are excited to see you and want to ensure your visit to the Center is a success.  In an effort to maintain the safety and well-being of members and staff, please adhere to the following when visiting:

- Face-coverings are strongly recommended when inside the building;
- Stay home if showing signs of respiratory illness (cough, sore throat or shortness of breath);
- Wall-mounted hand-sanitizing stations are available in each room;
- Be sure to dress in layers, bring a hat, sunscreen, and anything necessary to provide for your own comfort.
