Millis Public Library : Beat The Heat With Some Cool Summer Programs

Schools and Libraries

June 29, 2022

From: Millis Public Library

The Library will be closed on Monday, July 4th in observance of Independence Day.
We hope everyone enjoys the holiday and we'll look forward to seeing you again at the normal time on Tuesday, June 5th! Visit our E-Library to see all the Library resources available 24/7 from anywhere, check out our catalog to order something for after, and curbside will resume for the 6th if you want to grab your holds (but don't want to say "hi").

Have you heard about Mango Languages? It's a fun, fast, and interactive online language-learning system to learn everything from Spanish to Japanese to Greek to English. You can use Mango Languages on your computer, your tablet, or smartphone, and with over 70 languages available and easily accessible lessons, there's something for everyone!

This resource requires you to create a free account. To create an account, you’ll need an email address and your Millis library card.

Download the app for Apple or for Android, or click here to set up an account online.

Did you miss our last Toddler Waterplay?  No worries, we're having more! Join us for our next one on Wednesday, June 29th at 9am (and subsequent Wednesdays after) to have some fun in the sun at this weekly event! We'll have sprinklers, water tables, and a kiddie pool ready for your little ones to splash and cool off. Recommended for kids 1-3 years, all ages welcome!

Our courtyard gets VERY hot, so we recommend light clothes, sunscreen, and lots of water to keep everyone cool! Please note, the library opens at 10am.  Families will be able to access to the building to use the bathroom, but all other library use must wait until opening.

For cancellations to this event due to weather, we will change the Event listing on our Event Calendar by 8am to read CANCELLED for the day.

For the slightly older children, we're hosting Sprinkler Time! Another recurring program on Thursdays, our next one will be on June 30th at 6:30pm. Cool off in our courtyard with sprinklers, bubbles, chalk, and other fun outdoor toys!  Feel free to bring a picnic dinner.  Recommended for kids ages 3-7, all ages welcome!

If we need to cancel due to weather, the listing will be marked CANCELLED by 5:30pm on the day of the event on our Event Calendar.

A little out of order, but still important! A final reminder about Heroes: the Sword in the Stone, on Wednesday, June 29th at 1pm, presented by Talewise! This will be a joint program with Clyde F. Brown Elementary School for students going into 1st through 5th grade, and will be at the school, NOT the Millis Public Library. Students must be accompanied by a caregiver. Please park in the lot, not the circle, and arrive between 12:40-12:55. Latecomers may not have access to the building.

Taking a look at the classic legend of King Arthur through fresh eyes, we’ll explore the core concepts of character through guided group activities that promote trust, respect, responsibility, and cooperation! Just like young King Arthur, who was destined for greatness but had to choose his path, students will learn the importance of making good choices every day so that they can become heroes within their community.

Don’t miss this interactive, classic tale infused with valuable life lessons for our modern times!

And for the Middle Schoolers out there, come create your own slime that you'll be able to take home with Teen Slime Time! Recommended for grades 6th-8th, come craft your best slime with us on Friday, July 1st at 6:30pm and show the world your mad scientist potential. All supplies will be provided, but please bring your slime to life outside the library.

Register here to join (not bring your slime to life)

And last but not least, it's back! Coloring for Adults will be taking place again on July 8th this month at 6:30pm. As always, we'd like to invite you to join us for an hour of quiet relaxation! Coloring has been proven to help reduce stress, so take a break from your busy life and distract yourself with a variety of intricate pages waiting for your creative spirit and soothing music to help you get into the groove.

Everything you'll need will be provided-- just bring yourself! No registration required!
