Schools and Libraries

August 23, 2023

From: Millis Public Library

The Millis Public Library will be closed Monday, September 4th in honor of Labor Day. Stop in before that to get any books, movies, or games you might need, and (if you miss us), check out our E-Resources page to see all the Library resources available 24/7 from anywhere!

It's almost time! In case you missed it, we've partnered with the Globe Theater in London to bring you two of their recorded performances. Join us for some of the best of the Bard, from the theater that began his career, and experience Shakespeare 'live' on stage.

Our first screening will be August 25th at 7:30pm where we'll be showing "A Midsummer Night's Dream", the classic tale of mistaken identity, unrequited love, and a bit of supernatural interference set in ancient Greece.

Our second will be on September 15th at 7pm. We'll be showing "Macbeth", where in eleventh century Scotland, three witches foretell that Macbeth will become King. Macbeth has his lord King Duncan slain, and is crowned in his place...but that’s where his problems really begin.

Bring chairs or blankets to sit on, snacks, and maybe a friend or two to enjoy a fun evening with these classic works as they were originally performed, direct from across the Pond! No registration required, check here the day of to see if we have to use our rain date - September 29th.

August is drawing to a close, and with it, summer children's programs. Our kids programs are updating to reflect the upcoming school year, and we want you to be the first to know about it!

Starting September 11th, we'll be resuming Make-it Mondays, a weekly art program with a different craft each session for 3rd-6th graders! Make It Monday requires registration so we can have enough supplies on hand.  Please register EACH CHILD separately.

Make-It Mondays start at 4pm, and you can register for the first session here. Check out any future sessions on our event calendar.

Also resuming on Tuesday, September 12th is our Big Kids Story Time! Join us each week for stories just right for 4-7 year olds and an awesome craft! No registration required, Story time will start at 4pm on Tuesdays.

For the first time, there's space in a session of Creative Dance with Millis Dance Theater! This incredibly popular free 8 week session of Ballet-based dance classes for your 2-5 year old usually fills up instantly, and is perfect for little ones who love to dance but haven't taken a formal class yet.  Specific dance clothes are not required, but we recommend dance shoes or socks with "grippy" bottoms to help keep dancers from slipping. The dancing starts Wednesday, September 13th and will occur each Wednesday for the next 8 weeks at 10:50am. Register for the sessions here.

We've also got Lego Club resuming that week! Starting on September 14th, join us each Thursday at 4pm to show us what you can build! Come play with out massive LEGO Collection, no registration required. Recommended for children ages 4-10, all are welcome!

For all the grown-ups out there, we're pleased to announce the next batch of Friday Movies! Join us almost every week at 1pm for a new or classic film in the Roche Bros room. Light refreshments will be provided courtesy of the Friends of the Millis Library.
