Millis Public Library : Swoonworthy June - For kids

Schools and Libraries

June 16, 2022

From: Millis Public Library

Did you miss it? Your last chance to sign your teen up for Teen Tie Dye is fast approaching. Recommended for grades 6th-8th, join us on Friday, June 17th at 6:30pm to make some cool and funky custom shirts! All supplies will be provided. Please remember to put your shirt size in while you register so we have a canvas ready for you!

Last day to sign up with a guaranteed to fit shirt is Wednesday, June 18th! Register here.

Are you learning to read?  Want a fun way to practice?  Starting Monday, June 20th at 10:15am, join us for Book Buddies, a program for kids entering grades K-2.  We'll start off hearing a few stories read by our Youth Librarian, Rachel, then kids will pair off and practice reading to each other for 15 minutes (if you're feeling shy, you can read to your grownup- we'll make sure everyone feels comfortable).  As is our tradition, Book Buddies will end with popsicles for all!

This will be a recurring program, so if you can't make the first meeting, there will also be one on 6/27, 7/11, 7/18, 7/25, 8/8, and 8/15. No registration required!

And, if you love bead work, a Make-it Monday favorite is getting it's own program! Join us to make Perler Bead art! Recommended for children ages 5-12, make a design and let our beloved children's librarian iron it into a shape you can keep! We'll be hosting this on Tuesday, June 21st at 3:30pm-- no registration required!

Summer also means that we're starting Toddler Waterplay!  Beginning on Wednesday, June 22nd at 9am, have some fun in the sun at this weekly event! We'll have sprinklers, water tables, and a kiddie pool ready for your little ones to slash and cool off. Recommended for kids 1-3 years, all ages welcome!

Our courtyard gets VERY hot, so we recommend light clothes, sunscreen, and lots of water to keep everyone cool! Please note, the library opens at 10am.  Families will be able to access to the building to use the bathroom, but all other library use must wait until opening.

For cancellations to this event due to weather, we will change the Event listing on our Event Calendar by 8am to read CANCELLED for the day.

For the slightly older children, we're hosting Sprinkler Time! On Thursdays, starting June 23rd at 6:30pm, cool off in our courtyard with sprinklers, bubbles, chalk, and other fun outdoor toys!  Feel free to bring a picnic dinner.  Recommended for kids ages 3-7, all ages welcome!

If we need to cancel due to weather, the listing will be marked CANCELLED by 5:30pm on the day of the event on our Event Calendar.

Join us for Craft Duo and get in a double dose of crafting with two quick favorites--sand art and glitter slime!  Meet on Tuesday, June 28th at 4pm in the community room, but weather permitting we will be crafting in the courtyard!  Recommended for students ages 5-12.

Registration required so we can be sure to have enough supplies on hand! To sign up, register here.

Our next program will not be held at the library! A joint program with Clyde F. Brown Elementary School, this program will be at the school NOT the Millis Public Library. Students must be accompanied by a caregiver. Please park in the lot, not the circle, and arrive between 12:40-12:55. Latecomers may not have access to the building.

For students going into 1st through 5th grade, join us for Heroes: the Sword in the Stone, on Wednesday, June 29th at 1pm, presented by Talewise. Through a fresh take on the classic legend of King Arthur, we’ll explore the core concepts of character through guided group activities that promote trust, respect, responsibility, and cooperation!

Just like young King Arthur, who was destined for greatness but had to choose his path, students will learn the importance of making good choices every day so that they can become heroes within their community.

Don’t miss this interactive, classic tale infused with valuable life lessons for our modern times!
