COVID-19 Protocol Update

As of October 6th, 2022, Morris-Jumel Mansion no longer requires proof of vaccination for regular self-guided tours. Proof of vaccination may still be required for special events. 

All visitors ages 2+ must wear a mask while inside the Mansion.

ConEd Family Day: Celebrate the Lunar New Year with Activity To-Go Kits

Pick up between 12:00 - 3:00 PM

Chinese-American culture has been an important part of New York City life for centuries, and the city celebrates the Lunar New Year with a colorful festival in Chinatown. Celebrate the coming Year of the Rabbit (beginning January 22, 2023) from your home by learning about the Chinese zodiac animals and making a rabbit-themed activity! 

Please note that to-go kit reservations are currently filled, but any bags not picked up by 3pm will be given to walk-ups. If any cancelations release kits before Saturday, they will be available through the link below.

Paranormal Historical Investigation for Hamilton and Burr's Birthday

Saturday, January 28
6:30 - 9:00 PM

Hamilton's birth date has been hotly debated - but January is definitely his birth-month! In honor of Hamilton's birthday, MJM will host a specialized paranormal investigation focusing on the famous founding father's connection to the Mansion, including his "frenemy" Aaron Burr, who lived here. Perhaps the ghost of Alexander will join us and personally settle the controversy over his birthdate!

During the program, you will have after-dark access to ghost hunt in the period rooms of the Mansion, normally closed off to the public. Believers and skeptics alike will enjoy the evening, and will have the opportunity to possibly communicate with Morris-Jumel Mansion’s former residents using paranormal investigative equipment. Ages 18+, proof of vaccination required.

Virtual Parlor Chat: Alexander Hamilton’s Life & Legacy with the Alexander Hamilton Awareness Society

January is Alexander Hamilton’s birthday month, so what better time for the Alexander Hamilton Awareness Society to join Morris-Jumel’s monthly Virtual Parlor chat to discuss Hamilton’s Life & Legacy!

This virtual conversation will explore an overview of the life and legacy of Founding Father Alexander Hamilton. Attendants will get an overview of:

-Hamilton's early life in the Caribbean

-Hamilton as a military man

-Hamilton's wife, Elizabeth Schuyler

-Hamilton and the creation and ratification of the U.S. Constitution

-Hamilton’s connection to the Morris-Jumel Mansion

This conversation will feature Nicole Scholet, President of the Alexander Hamilton Awareness Society, and Sergio Villavicencio, Vice President of the Alexander Hamilton Awareness Society.

All those who attend the virtual event live will be entered to win a copy of a copy of Alexander Hamilton’s Guide to Life by Jeff Wilser.

Exhibition On-View

Revised Histories

On View: December 1, 2022 - April 30, 2023

Revised Histories is a site-specific installation by Traci Talasco which re-creates architectural sections of the Mansion out of carved erasers. Connecting to the history of its former residents, the artist calls attention to the details that have been purposely left out, or that have changed over time through the re-telling and/or uncovering of new facts. The use of erasers as a material conceptually and poetically represents the removal of information, both through erasing and carving. This exhibition investigates the re-telling of history and the information that is lost or missing in the process. The implied action of erasing speaks of mistakes or inaccuracies and of history itself.

This exhibition is on-view at the Morris-Jumel Mansion from December 1, 2022 through April 30, 2023.

We invite you to explore our offerings, which focus the people who lived and worked at the Mansion and the surrounding neighborhood with clear and direct curriculum-connections. Discounts for Title I Schools are available.
