One Week Until MOVING FORWARD!

There's only one week until our Annual Benefit & Mosesian Awards take the stage — and the lobbies, and the galleries — on Wednesday, May 24! We'll be sharing more details in emails and social media posts as the week goes on. Plan to join us and reserve your tickets today!

MOVING FORWARD

Tickets are moving fast for MOVING FORWARD: 2023 Annual Benefit & Mosesian Awards on Wednesday, May 24.

This annual event open to all will celebrate the arts in our community, raise funds for Mosesian Arts programming, and honor two local champions of the arts: internationally acclaimed Sayat Nova Dance Company, moving culture forward throughout the world, and community leader Barbara Epstein, who as first president of the Board of Directors helped put the wheels in motion for an arts center at the Arsenal. Executive Director Michael J. Bobbitt of Mass Cultural Council will also deliver a brief guest speech. Light food and beverages will be served, Sayat Nova will be the featured performers, and we’ll preview a selection from our own Watertown Children’s Theatre production of Singin’ in the Rain. As always, event proceeds will support diverse programming on MCA’s stages and in the community, free art exhibitions and gallery events, and exceptional arts education for youth and adults of all ages.

FLOW

In FLOW: Art Inspired by Movement and Sound opening on May 19, Mosesian Arts will display works that explore the connections between music, dance, and the visual arts. How does movement and sound translate into visual art? Cultures around the world often effortlessly combine the visual in the form of costumes, masks, or adornments with music and dance. Artists are inspired in a more direct way by movement and music, from the representational to more ephemeral or conceptual in nature. See this unique exhibition through June 30 only.

ALSO THIS MONTH

Performing for a final weekend on May 19-21, this first major musical from three-time Grammy and Academy Award winner Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Pippin, Children of Eden) took the world by storm. In 70s rock musical Godspell, a small group helps Jesus tell different parables by using a wide variety of games, storytelling techniques, and hefty doses of comic timing. An eclectic blend of songs, ranging in style from pop to vaudeville, is employed as the story of Jesus' life dances across the stage. This production is performed by actors in grades 9-12 in our Watertown Children's Theatre program.
