Nevada MAGA Mayhem – Weekly Senate Update: May 17, 2024

Government and Politics

May 17, 2024

Another week, another round of infighting for Nevada’s Republican Senate candidates who are making this the messiest and ugliest Senate primary in the country. This is Nevada MAGA Mayhem, your weekly update on the latest news from the Nevada Senate Republican Primary.

KEY TAKEAWAYS: Sam Brown continues his game of hide and seek with Nevada voters – dodging opportunities to answer questions about where he really stands on the issues, Yucca Mountain continues to be a top issue in the race, as Jeff Gunter launches an attack ad against Brown for his stance and all GOP candidates go on the offense for Brown’s toxic stance, and Brown is back in the spotlight for his election conspiracy support.

SAM BROWN IS PLAYING HIDE AND SEEK WITH NEVADA VOTERS

MAGA Extremist Sam Brown continues to hide from primary voters – skipping yet another primary debate and leaving himself vulnerable to harsh words and attacks from his primary opponents.

They were not shy in criticizing Brown for refusing to show up, supporting plans to restart Yucca Mountain Nuclear Waste repository, and more. Watch here to see some of the Republican criticism thrown at Brown.

Brown also bailed on an interview with KRNV reporter Ben Margiott earlier this week, citing a “scheduling conflict,” but then refusing to reschedule.

Sounds like yet another excuse to not answer questions about his toxic policy on Yucca Mountain, abortion, January 6, and more!

However, Brown has had no issue finding time to continue his right-wing media tour as he makes appearances on Fox News, Wayne Allyn Root, OAN, and other extreme outlets. Maybe Sam just needs a safe space free from accountability in the far-right bubble?

GUNTER LAUNCHES ATTACK AD OVER BROWN’S TOXIC YUCCA MOUNTAIN STANCE

This week, Jeff Gunter went after Sam Brown directly in a new attack ad – calling him out over his strong support for restarting the Yucca Mountain Nuclear Waste Repository. Gunter highlighted how Brown supports plans to dump “toxic nuclear waste into Nevada, just miles away from schools,” and “selling out” to Mitch McConnell.

Reporting from the Las Vegas Review-Journal highlights how Brown is the ONLY candidate in the messy MAGA primary who supports restarting the Yucca Mountain Nuclear Waste Repository.

Gunter and Brown’s other primary opponents have now repeatedly attacked Brown on social media, the debate stage, via ads and in media interviews over his toxic position on Yucca Mountain.

Critics and media outlets continue to observe that Brown’s toxic stance “could roil Nevada U.S. Senate race,” and have called his position “not very aware,” “reckless,” and “politically damaging.”

BROWN IN THE ?SPOTLIGHT ?FOR SUPPORTING ELECTION CONSPIRACY THEORIES

New reporting highlights Brown’s history of support for election conspiracy theories and refusing to answer basic questions, including whether or not the 2020 presidential election was “stolen.”

This includes actively spreading the extreme election conspiracy theories that fueled the deadly January 6 insurrection, downplaying the violent events of January 6, and supporting MAGA efforts to overturn the 2020 election results in Nevada even after January 6.
